The Subject Educator I serves as a member of the 4-H Youth Development Team to assist with delivery, evaluation, planning and management of the 4-H Youth Development programs. The 4-H Educator interacts with the public through group delivery of programs and through individual club activities. The individual assists the supervisor in activities to foster 4-H youth development with community leaders and to discover best practices and integration of new tools and materials with appropriate Association staff. Educator will provide educational programs in assigned subject matter areas. The educator will combine innovative and traditional approaches to provide Animal Science, STEM, Ag, Horticultural and traditional 4-H youth programming. The educator will collaborate with other educators in the Leatherstocking SBN region to create shared programming opportunities.
Bachelor's Degree and one year related experience or Associate's Degree and 2 years transferable program/functional experience may substitute for Bachelor's Degree requirement.

4-H and youth development experience.
Demonstrated ability to utilize computer technologies for educational and communication purposes.
Knowledge and experience in a non-formal education system, such as Cooperative Extension.
1 year experience working with volunteers and volunteer management.
Position Responsibilities & Essential Functions
Program Delivery - 70%
Utilize established program materials and resources in program work.
Implement existing 4-H programming to include, but not limited to: 4-H Public Presentations, Animal Science Programs, the Oneida County Fair, and 4-H County, District, and State special events.
Teach existing educational programs as defined utilizing a variety of proven educational methodologies.
Work to foster acceptance of 4-H Program, methods and policies while addressing community and individual needs and considering diverse audiences.
Under the direction and oversight of program leadership, occasionally apply established subject matter knowledge to create lesson plans to deliver educational program.
Serve as a subject-matter resource in discipline to staff and participants, community organizations and the general public.
Represent CCE before the public, community leaders, government officials, Cornell or other land grant universities as part of program delivery.
May be involved in multidisciplinary team efforts within the Association or regionally to deliver program.
May assist in ensuring that program delivery is within scope of statewide Plan of Work.
Program Evaluation - 10%
Implement program evaluation as designed.
Interact with program participants to obtain their evaluation of programs.
Assist the Subject Educator III in the process of analyzing program data, and based on that analysis, assist in making recommendations for improvements in program offerings.
Communicate evaluation findings to constituents as appropriate.
Administrative Direction - 5%
Assist in the planning of major 4-H programs and events.
Provide input in planning the structure of delivering educational programs via various methods.
Provide input to planning unit budget based on program feasibility needs and assist in identifying opportunities for 4-H fund development activities.
Assist supervisor in initiating effective professional relationships with other agencies, organizations and businesses that promote effective communication to facilitate continued programming efforts.
Administrative Management - 5%
Provide guidance to volunteers and co-workers, including those performing similar work.
Solve problems and resolve conflicts that arise within the 4-H Youth Development Program utilizing appropriate policies and procedures.
Implement the existing volunteer enrollment and selection process.
Administrative Coordination/Operation - 5%
Organize and coordinate activities related to 4-H Club Programming.
Coordinate, compile and organize existing program resources and program materials.
Assist in utilizing effective marketing strategies in the promotion of programming efforts to include, but not limited to: print media, news media, social media and multi-media efforts.
Interact effectively with program participants and volunteers to provide programming and support.
Maintain effective professional relationships with other agencies, organizations and businesses that promote effective communication to facilitate continued programming efforts.
Provide moderately complex administrative tasks to support the delivery of established educational program goals.
Provide information as requested to assist with preparation of reports, impact statements, and success stories on program progress and accomplishments for funders, advisory committees, Board and others as necessary.
Professional Improvement - 5%
In cooperation with Supervisor and/or Executive Director, jointly develop and pursue a professional development plan as a means to increase competencies relative to position accountabilities and to address changes and Association priorities.
Collaborate in activities that are in general support of Cornell Cooperative Extension and perform other duties as assigned.

Be familiar with and strive to follow any applicable federal, state, local regulations, Association health and safety policy/procedure/requirement and standard.
