The Assistant Vice President for Development is a seasoned leader/manager of fundraising teams in higher-education or similar not-for-profit institutions, and a successful fundraiser in his/her own right with demonstrated experience securing six- and seven-figure gifts.
The Assistant Vice President is responsible for developing and implementing fundraising and organizational strategies that will eventually drive $25M+ annually in philanthropic revenue for Skidmore through principal, major, and planned gifts from alumni, parents, and friends; and funding from foundations and corporations. The Assistant Vice President has responsibility for the day-to-day management of the Development team, comprised of approximately 20 fundraising professionals in major gifts, principal gifts, gift planning, family philanthropy, and corporations and foundations. These include five direct reports, who are senior members of the Advancement Division.
The AVPD will manage a portfolio of major- and principal-gift capacity prospects and donors, including many of the College's highest profile supporters.
The AVPD is a member of Advancement's Executive Leadership Team, which is composed of the Vice President and Assoc. Vice President for Advancement, the Executive Director for Alumni Relations/College Events, and the Executive Director for Advancement Operations/Prospect Development. The Assistant Vice President collaborates closely with these partners and their programs and teams to achieve divisional fundraising and engagement goals.
Bachelor’s Degree. 8+ years of management and direct fundraising experience in higher ed or other not-for-profit organizations.
Demonstrated history/experience of 1.Securing six- and seven-figure gifts in higher education or similar not-for-profit organizations 2.Recruiting, managing, and retaining fundraising teams 3.Working successfully in a complex, fast-paced organization serving multiple stakeholders 4.Exceptional interpersonal communications skills and the ability to write persuasively and effectively for varied audiences 5.Building consensus and handling sensitive matters with tact, discretion, and humanity 6.Budget management
