Position Summary: We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Clinical Lab Technologist.
In this role, the successful candidate performs clinical laboratory tests on various types of specimens for diagnostic purposes. Follows standard operating procedures for specimen staining. Acquires and analyzes data using flow cytometers. Actively participates in Quality Control and daily laboratory maintenance activities
Data acquisition: Operates cytometers demonstrating knowledge of various types ofsoftware. Sets up instrument for acquisition according to the test and panel. Duringacquisition matches sample number and antibody combination on the tube and in thecomputer.
Sample staining and cryopreservation: Clearly labels tubes with sample number andantibody combination. Performs cell surface and intracellular staining according to thepanel following SOP. Follows safety procedures. Makes an aliquot of the cell suspensionand freezes it at -80C according to SOP. Maintains records of all frozen aliquots.
Cell isolation:Prepares samples to betested, isolatesleukocytes fromperipheral blood, bonemarrow and tissuespecimens based onstandard operatingprocedures. Workingwith single cellsuspension counts totalnumber of cells anddetermines theirviability usingmicroscope andhemocytometer.Adjusts cellconcentrationaccordingly.
Reagent preparation:Prepares all reagentsaccording to the recipesdescribed in Standardoperating procedures(SOP) manual. Checkstheir pH and labelscontainers with content,concentration andexpiration date andinitials.
Calibration andInstrument QCMonitoring:FACSCalibur: Dailycalibrates instrumentusing FACSComp software. PreparesCaliBrite beads andruns lyse/wash andlyse/no-washcalibrations. Checks ifall parameters passedand records results inthe log book.FACSCanto: Daily runs7-color calibration forT-cell subset and CSand T beads forleukemia/lymphomaimmunophenotyping.Checks if all parameterspassed and recordsresults in the log book.
Equipment start-up:FACSCalibur: Duringcytometer warm-upchecks sheath fluidlevel, empties waste,and primes fluidics.FACSCanto: Duringcytometer warm-upreplaces sheath fluid,clean and shut-downsolutions, emptieswaste and runs Fluidicsstartup.
Temperature andhumidity monitoring:Performs daily checksand recordstemperatures of allrefrigerators, freezersand water baths.Records ambienttemperature andhumidity.
Minimum Qualifications: To qualify you must have a Bachelor's Degree in Clinical Laboratory Technology from a program registered by the NYS Department of Education or Bachelor's Degree in the major of biology, chemistry or physical sciences from an accredited college or university. One year in a clinical laboratory (Completion of an internship program at a qualified institution is acceptable). License as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist by the State of New York based on the on the Special Provision of the Regulations of the Commissioner in accordance with the Clinical Laboratory Technology Practice Act. Effective communication and interpersonal skills required.
Preferred Qualifications: ASCP certification in Flow Cytometry. 1-3 years experience in a flowCytometry laboratory
