Fitch's EMEA Structured Finance department maintain existing ratings and assigns ratings to new Structured Finance transactions. Our experienced team of analysts provide timely and transparent coverage of the rated securities and the asset markets they rely upon. In addition to the London office the department maintains offices in Paris, Frankfurt, Madrid and Milan.
The department monitors more than 1,000 transactions split across four main asset classes: Asset Backed Securities, Residential Mortgage Backed Securities, Commercial Mortgage Backed Securities and Structured Credit. Further, Fitch's Covered Bonds team maintains about 110 public ratings principally in Europe.
The European RMBS team is responsible for providing ratings for all securities backed by residential mortgage loans. In addition, the team is actively involved in publishing research in relation to both RMBS performance as well as mortgage market fundamentals. The team places a high priority on the quality of its analysis, transparency of its research and its responsiveness to market participants.
Job Description and Responsibilities:
We are seeking a Director or Associate Director level credit analyst to join our London RMBS team. You will primarily focus on the analysis of transactions backed by UK residential mortgage assets, to provide high quality credit opinions to investors and other market participants. You will be responsible for a portfolio of credits and in due course you will be expected to lead management visits with originators and sponsors. You will prepare comprehensive rating proposals for presentation to internal rating committees. You will be expected to represent Fitch externally, including with investors, to substantiate Fitch's views on credit risk for RMBS transactions. You will facilitate the development of junior team members through effective coaching.
The role encompasses:
Working with transaction arrangers and originators to understand assets characteristics and structural features of an RMBS transactions
Conducting on-site reviews of the underwriting and servicing practices of originators
Implementing appropriate default and cash flow modelling
Reviewing transaction legal documents to ensure compliance with Fitch criteria and models
Preparing rating proposals for presentation to internal rating committees
Communicating rating rationale to investors and other market participants through presale reports, presentations and meetings
Developing research and criteria
Qualifications and experience:
You will possess a sound academic track record to degree level; a specialty in finance or statistical sciences is desirable but not essential. You will have extensive experience of residential mortgage assets either through originating, underwriting or funding at a financial institution or specialist lender operating in the UK market. You should demonstrate strong organisational skills as the role requires being able to work independently as well as being a good team player. Managing a diverse workload and coping with deadlines is essential. Experience of project management is desirable but not essential. You should bring experience in coaching junior team members; some experience in line management would be an advantage.
Further postgraduate study or professional qualifications will be positively considered. Given the requirement for rating agencies to provide independent opinions, strength of character and discipline is required and you must be able to appreciate the wider regulatory environment in which Fitch operates.
The ideal candidate will also possess the following attributes:
Extensive knowledge of residential mortgage assets gained through experience at a financial institutions or specialist lender operating in the UK market.
Ability to produce high quality content such as research reports for internal or external users
Numerate and analytical, with strong Excel skills
Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Candidates must be fluent in English.
Ability to work to strict deadlines and be able to manage a mix of short- and longer-term timetables
Highly motivated and self-disciplined
