The Resident Director reports to an Assistant Director in a dynamic department led by the Assistant Dean of Students and Director who provides clear direction and sense of teamwork within the department while expanding opportunities for collaboration between residential programs and departments both within and outside Student Affairs. The Division of Student Affairs is open to new and innovative ideas for developing the vision for the residential experience, and is eager to become a leader in the field, contributing to best practices for the profession while remaining student centered.
The Resident Director for The Neterhlands Complex is a professional, 12-month, live-in position responsible for supporting the mission of the University by developing a first-year residential living environments conducive to student learning and academic success, respecting, appreciating, and advocating for the diversity of our student population, and supporting the holistic development of approximately 3500 campus residents. Duties include: managing a residential area of 560 residents; supervision and professional development of 20 resident assistants and one graduate assistant; liaison with administrators, faculty and staff; the development of specialized programming in the residence halls, which may include the management and growth of Themed Living Communities (TLCs), and Living Learning Communities (LLCs); active participation in the student conduct process; and oversight of hall government. The Resident Director actively participates in staff recruitment, selection and training activities, management of residence hall facility and occupancy issues, and campus critical incident response. On call responsibilities on a duty rotation basis and evening and weekend work is required. Resident Directors also support large-scale campus events.
