The Assistant Director of Nursing and Allied Health Education is responsible to the Director and assists in the planning, coordination, implementation, and evaluation of continuing education programs for nursing and allied health professionals in the Eastern AHEC service region in response to assessed regional needs. These activities will be done in compliance with ANCC/NCNA guidelines for continuing nursing education. The activities of the Assistant Director are designed to fulfill the AHEC goals to increase the number, productivity, and quality of nursing and allied health manpower in North Carolina, to improve their geographic distribution throughout the state, and provide educational support through the provision of formal learning experiences and utilization of learning resources.
Initiate and maintain effective communication with appropriate professionals and related health agencies and organizations
Promote and maintain effective communication within the Eastern AHEC system and with the North Carolina AHEC Program
Supervise staff as assigned
Maximize the use of technology to better serve the region.
Participate in professional organizations as appropriate
Participate in professional development activities to keep current with workforce and educational needs for healthcare providers in a rapidly changing healthcare environment
Serve as faculty resource to the University and area community colleges for nursing, allied health and clinical agencies as requested.
Serve as faculty resource to the statewide NC AHEC for programs, projects and activities designed to prepare health professionals to meet the health care needs of the citizens of NC.
Assist the promotion of Eastern AHEC as an information center for health careers information, activities, and statistical data for the region.
Assist Eastern AHEC to increase awareness and recruitment of academically prepared people into the health professions, with special emphasis on underrepresented minorities.
Collaborate with Eastern AHEC faculty and staff and regional healthcare systems, educational institutions, and other organizations to create and provide high quality, cost effective, and innovative educational activities for the region that improve patient outcomes
Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate outreach and continuing education programs and activities in Nursing and Allied Health primarily, and other health professions as assigned.
Initiate and manage credit applications for educational programs, and assure that data is gathered and maintained such that accreditation and credit provided meets all applicable guidelines. oFor Nursing, this includes meeting all ANCC/NCNC (American Nurses Credentialing Center/North Carolina Nurses Association) guidelines oFor Allied Health, this includes meeting the guidelines of a range of Allied Health disciplines' credentialing bodies
Prepare and oversee budgets and program plans for CE and outreach programs
Monitor, in collaboration with others, workforce trends and issues in pharmacy and dental health education regionally and statewide, working with key individuals in the region and across the state.
Facilitate, support, and implement research activities and projects related to Nursing and Allied Health education, practice, and workforce development.
Assist in the implementation of nursing legislative mandates designed to improve clinical site development, preceptor development, educational mobility or RN Refresher education.
May serve as Lead Nurse Planner for ensuring the quality of continuing nursing education according to an established process for developing, delivering and evaluating the effectiveness of educational activities offered (required for EAHEC Dept. of Nursing Education to be an Approved Provider) which includes preparing applications (every three years) to assure the Eastern AHEC Dept. of Nursing Education remains an Approved Provider of nursing continuing education through the North Carolina Nurses Association (for awarding nursing credit).
Be conversant with current ANCC Accreditation Program, current Scope and Standards of Practice for Nursing Professional Development and principles of adult learning. Utilize this information to prepare, orient and train other Nurse Planners in the Provider Unit.

Master's degree or Post baccalaureate credential in a Health Care field or Health Care Administration.
Bachelor's degree in Nursing and Licensed Registered Nurse in North Carolina or eligible for licensure in North Carolina.

Eastern Area Health Education Center (Eastern AHEC) is a private, nonprofit educational organization affiliated with East Carolina University (ECU). The mission of Eastern AHEC, in accordance with the Statewide AHEC Program, is to meet the state's health and health workforce needs by providing educational programs in partnership with academic institutions, health care agencies, and other organizations committed to improving the health of the people of NC.
