Computer Vision Scientist Job Purpose: The Computer Vision Scientist contributes to all aspects of development, maintenance, and integration of image and video-based algorithms. Principal (Essential) Duties: - Develop and implement image and video-based algorithms for automated detection, tracking, and classification of materials and targets in hyperspectral images
- Research and develop novel computer vision algorithms for implementation in real-time systems
- Optimize algorithms to overcome challenges presented by real-world data
- Provide feedback on image quality to help drive improvement in overall system performance
- Lead research activities for ongoing government and commercial projects and products
- Collaborate on proposals, grants, and publications in the area of algorithm development
- Collect data as warranted to support the algorithm development efforts
- Work directly with software engineers to implementation of algorithms into commercial software products

Experience/Education Requirements: - MS or PhD in Computer Science, Robotics, Engineering, Applied Math, or the Physical Sciences with an emphasis in computer vision, image processing, or machine learning
- 3+ years’ experience with Matlab, OpenCV, or other high performance numerical computation libraries; Experience with C# is a plus
- Extensive experience with computer vision algorithms such as object recognition, target tracking, geolocation, and multi-sensor image registration and fusion; Experience with Neural Networks is a plus
- Experience with standard imaging processing techniques such as image filtering, segmentation, and feature extraction
- Experience with adapting algorithms for real-world data
- Enthusiasm for developing innovative solutions in a rapid development environment
- Well versed in current algorithm literature
- Experience with hyperspectral image analysis and with multivariate statistical techniques such as pattern recognition, calibration, classification, and optimization
- A willingness/ability to travel; In support of field trials, for example
- US Citizenship preferred with willingness and ability to successfully obtain government security clearance
Working Conditions/ Physical Demands: Perform sedentary work - exerting up to ten pounds of force occasionally. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. See, hear, talk and perform tasks requiring manual dexterity; standing, walking and other similar tasks requiring physical activity. Operate standard office equipment including a computer, copier, fax, phone and other similar office equipment. Work setting is primarily office based but conditions may involve limited exposure to chemicals, emitted radiation, fumes, dust, odors, gases and other substances when in a laboratory environment.
