Community Interviewer (Part-time/Temporary/Contractual) - (180001NY)
The Community Interviewer is responsible for data collection and data entry activities for the Grow Your Kids Project: TREE at the MDAAP. The position coordinates data collection, entry and maintenance, at two local hospitals and work with both MDAAP staff and the Institute for Innovation and Implementation at the University of Maryland School of Social work who is overseeing the evaluation. The Community Interviewer serves as a point of contact for study participants, research personnel and support staff, as well as external partners at times. The position conducts complex work and contributes to measurable team objectives; adheres to good research practices, study protocols, and applicable regulations; uses discretion to provide solutions to issues; and performs work that is varied and that does not follow prescribed procedures or processes.
The Institute serves as a national training, technical assistance, evaluation, policy, systems design, and finance center that is focused on children's behavioral health. The Institute supports state and local governments and organizations to implement effective systems and practices to best meet the needs of children and youth with complex behavioral needs and their families. This support is provided through three primary units within The Institute: Policy and Finance; Technical Assistance & Implementation; and Research & Evaluation. These units work in an integrated fashion to assist governmental and other organizational entities to achieve better outcomes for children, youth, and their families. Parent, Infant and Early Childhood (PIEC) Program focuses on early childhood and parenting efforts specifically across the training, technical assistance, evaluation, policy, systems design, and finance domains.
This is a part-time, contractual position.
Learns the TREE project implementation and becomes familiar with all aspects of the project.
Independently coordinates and communicates directly with the PIEC Research Director and the Senior Research Manager, study participants, and sponsors to implement the evaluation activities for the Grow Your Kids Project: TREE.
Recruits study participants. It is anticipated this person will collect data from families through direct interviews/electronic data collection and Review EMR data at the two health centers. Serves as a liaison between study participants and the Evaluation team. Maintains telephone or electronic contact with families to ascertain appointment dates.
Coordinates the collection and management of study data by managing data collection instruments, establishing and maintaining databases, entering data, and performing data quality checks. Along with the PIEC Research Director and Senior Research Analyst, develops and implements new processes to improve effectiveness and efficiency of data collection and evaluation. Tracks, reports, and audits study data and regulatory study documentation.
Monitors activities to ensure compliance with protocols and all relevant local, federal, and state regulatory and institutional policies.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Education : High School Diploma or GED. Bachelor's degree in social work, sociology, psychology, public health, nursing, or another discipline appropriate to position preferred.
Experience : Six month's work experience
Preferred Experience: Prior experience in research and evaluation preferred. Knowledge and experience with early childhood preferred. Consideration may be given for a unique combination of education and experience.*
*Bachelor's degree in an unrelated field with at least 18 credits in a field related to the research, as appropriate, or Bachelor's degree in an unrelated field with at least one year experience in a field directly related to the research. Except for qualifications established by law, additional related experience and formal education in which one has gained the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for full performance of the work of the job class may be substituted for the education or experience requirement on a year-for-year basis with 30 college credits being equivalent to one year experience.

Skill in utilizing relevant PC and data applications. Skill in data entry and data verification as well as well as spreadsheet maintenance required. Knowledge of other database software applications preferred but not required. Skills in web-based data collection systems including data extraction and reporting.
