The Financial Aid Special Programs Advisor will assist Northern Virginia Community College students through the financial aid application process by utilizing comprehensive knowledge of federal, state, and local financial aid rules and procedures to review, request, and communicate with students regarding financial aid documents. Will assist in resolving conflicting information and ISIR C codes as it relates to the verification of information. Works to complete student files with requisite award information and to assist with award adjustment and disbursement activities.
Description of Duties and Tasks:
Assist the Associate Director for Special Programs in the administration of financial aid, in general, and grant funds for special programs and scholarships, in particular. Review reports and student files in PeopleSoft and Banner, as necessary, to answer student and staff inquiries and to assist in the awarding and adjusting of financial aid, special program funds and scholarships. Provide assistance in working other reports, completing needs analysis forms and processing scholarships. Review documents received for completeness and accuracy and request additional information when needed. Use electronic methods daily to stay current in program changes and policies governing the administration of financial aid. Assist the Associate Director for Special Programs and/or the Director of Financial Aid in other areas as requested.
Minimum Qualifications :
Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Finance, Accounting, or related field, or equivalent applicable experience and/or training. Experience working in a financial aid office at a post-secondary institution of higher education. Demonstrated experience interpreting and applying federal and state regulations related to financial aid.
Professional experience reconciling and balancing financial accounts. Related work experience in coordinating office tasks and managing multiple projects, organizing, tracking and reporting information with specific attention to detail. Demonstrate successful experience in a financial aid office coordinating work flow.
