The Department of Art at Texas A&M University-Commerce is pleased to announce an opening for Assistant Professor of Art History to begin in the fall semester, 2019. The appointment is a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor, with salary commensurate with qualifications and experience. The A&M University-Commerce, formerly East Texas State University, is a senior public institution with an academic enrollment of approximately 11,000 students 65 miles east of Dallas, Texas. The Department of Art enjoys a strong reputation both regionally and nationally in Fine and Applied Arts.
MAJOR/ESSENTIAL DUTIES OF JOB:
The successful candidate will have a Ph.D. or ABD (degree in hand by start of employment) in art history, art criticism, or a related field emphasizing the visual arts within cultural contexts. The candidate must have the following qualifications:
At least one year of teaching experience at the college level
Evidence of past and ongoing scholarly activities (publications, presentations, panels, catalogs, etc.)
Evidence of the ability to teach various period courses and seminars in art from the 17th-21st centuries
Participation in the departmentâ™s graduate studio art program, including teaching graduate courses/seminars for MFA students, attending graduate critiques, and serving on MFA committees.
For tenure and promotion, candidates are expected to develop and sustain a record of published research, as well as participation in departmental and university governance.
This position shall include, but is not necessarily limited to, the above duties. The candidate may temporarily perform other tasks assigned to maintain department operations and services. The position also entails participating in appropriate department, college, and university service opportunities.
Employment is contingent upon conditions that include satisfactory enrollment of survey sections and the instructor adhering to all System, university, college and department policies and procedures.
