The Assistant Professor is a member of the ranked faculty with an intermediate academic rank who has demonstrated achievement in the areas of teaching, research, and professional service appropriate to the discipline. The Assistant Professor’s teaching responsibilities are assigned by the academic department head and may include serving as an academic advisor. The Assistant Professor engages in scholarly activities beyond those associated with teaching and is expected to demonstrate professional productivity in research, based upon the availability of resources and consistent with the mission of the University.
Description of Primary Duties:
Primary duties of the position are leadership of the BA and BS Theatre programs, support for the BSEd Theatre program, teaching Script Analysis, Fundamentals of Acting, and other courses as well as possible directing assignments, within the applicant's area of expertise as determined by the Department Head. The candidate should possess ongoing enthusiasm and passion for theatre generalist curriculum within a department which includes pre-professional BFA programs. Position also includes department/college/university service, and student advising, including serving as the mentor for student senior projects. Departmental responsibilities include involvement with program planning, assessment, curriculum development, and participation in department governance.
Ongoing professional research/creative activity, recruiting, and university & professional service is expected.
Minimum Acceptable Qualifications:
The minimum acceptable qualifications for the position of Assistant Professor are prescribed in the Faculty Handbook. The ability to develop knowledge of, respect for, and skills to engage with those of other cultures or backgrounds is required.
Candidates should have an earned terminal degree by August 15, 2019, evidence of successful college/university teaching and active research agenda, at least two years of successful teaching experience as an instructor-of-record at the college-level and demonstrated competency in culturally responsive pedagogy. -Experience working in diverse environment and/or with students from diverse backgrounds.
