We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Instrument Coordinator.
In this role, the successful candidate is responsible for completion and accuracy of new instrument sets, assessment and evaluation of instrument tray packaging and weight, acquisition and replacement of new instruments and damaged or missing instruments. Communicates daily with the charge resource nurses in each OR department. This person will meet daily with the Sterile Processing Department Management and Lead Technicians to assure concise communication. Prepares instrument refurbishing schedules, maintains an organized work area, and accounts for instrumentation released and received for refurbishing. Determines appropriate size of new instrument containers and assesses needs for custom made instrument carriers. Controls and minimizes the individual peel-pouched items in the 6th floor instrument storage area, using these instruments in sets when needed, and supply overstocked instrumentation to SPD. The Instrument Coordinator must be able to resolve problems related to instruments, implants, drills, and all power equipment. Participates in the daily schedule review and anticipates instruments needed for the following days cases.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Assists OR team leaders with open instrumentation projects, building instrument trays, documenting manufacturer recommendations, and getting new trays into circulation.
Acts as liaison between Surgical Services and the Sterile Processing Department, communicating clear messages between Surgical Services and SPD to prioritize needs and complete instrumentation projects.
Maintains a well-organized instrument storage area, controlling and minimizing peel-pouched instrumentation.
Orders and maintains inventory of department and office supplies.
Determines appropriate container size for instrument containers, assesses needs for custom made instrument carriers, weigh and assemble instrument sets according to AAMI standards.
Communicates throughout the day with both SPD and OR to assess the needs for instruments that must be turned over rapidly.
Coordinates instrumentation needed for the following day with the OR schedule. This includes capturing all of the booked and add-on procedures.
Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of experience in surgical service or sterile processing
Minimum of three years of responsible Central Service, or Surgical Service operations experience
Excellent organizational skills required
Knowledge of medical terminology and Microsoft office is needed
Knowledge of Surgical Instrumentation
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
Must be a Certified Registered Central Service Technician and Certified Instrument Specialist
Comprehensive knowledge in inventory control, supply distribution, receiving, reprocessing techniques and principles, production management and regulating agencies standards
Knowledge of instrument tracking software such as SPM
Completion of formal central service technician education program, and/or a certification in materials resources
Qualified candidates must be able to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization.
