The Executive Search. The Chason Group, Inc. has been selected to conduct an executive search for an experienced chamber of commerce professional to lead the Brunswick-Golden Isles Chamber of Commerce on Georgia’s coast.
About the Chamber. M.H. “Woody” Woodside has led the Brunswick-Golden Isles Chamber for over 30 years. In the fall of 2018, he announced his retirement date of April 2019. The organization was established in 1954 and serves as the voice of business for Glynn County, Georgia. The chamber plays a significant role in shaping the community’s economy through advocacy on the local, regional, state and federal levels. The chamber has a staff of five professionals in addition to the president.
The Position. The Search Committee has outlined several important skills and traits required of the new executive. Candidates should be a graduate of the US Chamber’s Institute of Organization Management or have at least 10 years of successful chamber of commerce management in a leadership role with a minimum of two years of Chamber Institute completed. Certified Georgia Chamber of Commerce Executive or a similar status from other states will add value to a candidate’s application.
A proven extended tenure in leading an organization through innovative visionary growth and meaningful change to improve the business environment of the community is another skill set the Search Committee is seeking. Other character traits desired of applicants include a creative and strategic thinker who has experience in developing relevant programs and goals to enhance the quality of life of a community; experienced team builder and leader who will effectively represent the chamber in many environments; and a proven track record of successfully working with a board of directors, governments, and members.

About Henry County, Georgia. Henry County, Georgia is located 30 miles south of Atlanta. Interstate 75 is one of the prime economic engines for the community of 221,000 citizens. The county is a part of the Atlanta MSA and is only minutes away from Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport. Henry County contains four cities: Stockbridge, McDonough, Hampton and Locust Grove. The median age, based on the 2014 American Community Survey, is 36. This age group has nearly doubled in the past 15 years. Population growth estimates indicate the 2020 numbers will reach over 241,000 and by 2040 close to 370,000.
About the Chamber. More than 50 years since the Henry County Chamber was formed much has changed in the community. Many of these changes were stimulated by the chamber of commerce through its committees formed to tackle a variety of issues. Over the years, the chamber has been instrumental in the expansion of Piedmont Henry Hospital, successful passage of SPLOST and ESPLOST referendums, the presence of Southern Crescent Technical College’s (SCTC) Henry Campus, the state’s largest College and Career Academy and the implementation of dual enrollment in the Henry County Sch...ool System with Clayton State University, Gordon State College and SCTC as participating institutions. The chamber also led the effort to have Henry County designated as “Entrepreneurial Friendly”.
With over 700 members, the Chamber’s professional team of six staff members operate the Chamber as well as the Convention and Visitors Bureau which is the Destination Marketing Organization for Henry County and the Cities of Hampton, Locust Grove and Stockbridge.
