Cloud Software Architect - 12A - Platts
The Cloud Software Architect will play a pivotal role in our strategic transformation from an application to a cloud native platform-centric software and data engineering organization. These efforts are occurring within the broader context of major strategic initiatives to extend our market leadership and build next-generation software platforms that are powered by our World Class datasets as we pivot to a platform company. In short, the Cloud Software Architect will lead fundamental software architecture changes while building a platform with modern could based technology. This position is tasked with leading the creation of cloud native software design patterns and providing technical leadership in cloud software architecture, software defined infrastructure, auto scaling, high availably and disaster recovery. The Cloud Software Architect reports into the Technology organization and will be embedded into the Analytics and Innovation engineering streams to provide architectural leadership and best practices.
The position requires strong software engineering leadership and hands on coding capabilities. This is NOT a paper architect position. This position will be tasked to program the scaffolding of the architectural designs and coach software engineers to program the scaffolding into commercial solutions. The successful candidate must have team building skills and be able to collaborate effectively across multiple regions, cultures and with a group of high performing individuals.
Responsibilities
Cloud Software Architecture Design and Development
- Partner with scrum teams and develop AWS cloud native architectures for new development
- Write the PoC and scaffolding code for AWS cloud architectures
- Work with software engineers and coach them on how to turn the PoCs and scaffolding code into commercial applications
- Work with teams to design and implement CI\CD pipelines with blue\green deployments
- Own the technical aspect of our software development Playbook
- Partner with CloupOps/TechOps to efficiently manage AWS environments
- Develop a library of deployable and documented cloud design patterns, based on the Platts Analytics application portfolio, as a basis for deploying future services to the cloud
- Demonstrate the ability to solve complex, multi-system problems
- Demonstrate leadership ability to back decisions with research and the "why," and articulate several options, the pros and cons for each, and a recommendation
- Constantly learn and stay current with modern software development trends, Maintain overall industry knowledge on latest trends, technology, etc...
Consultation
- Drive scope definition, requirements analysis, functional and technical design, application build, product configuration, unit testing, and production deployment
- Ensure delivered solutions meet/perform to technical and functional/non-functional requirements
- Provide technical expertise and ownership in the diagnosis and resolution of an issue, including the determination and provision of workaround solution or escalation to service owners
- Ensure delivered solutions are realized in time frame committed; work in conjunction with project sponsors to size and manage scope and risk
- Provide support and technical governance, expertise related to cloud architectures, deployment, and operations
Thought Leadership
- Provide thought leadership to fellow team members across the business and technical project stakeholders solving complex business requirements
- Advocate and define cloud architecture vision from a strategic perspective, including all platforms, tools, and systems Mentoring
- Work with the engineering stream leads to definition and develop Platts cloud reference architecture and management systems
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering or a related study, or equivalent experience
- Must have a strong software development background
- Proven experience spanning software architecture and application development
- Experience with AWS cloud native technologies
- Exposure to multiple, diverse technologies and platform environments
- Knowledge of all components of a technical architecture
- Knowledge of business process re-engineering principles and processes
- Strong understanding of network architecture and application development methodologies
- Strong understanding of microservice design patterns
- Experience working within the commodities or financial industry preferred
