The Department of Agriculture and Natural Resources of Rutgers Cooperative Extension (RCE) at Rutgers University invites applications for a full time, 12 month calendar year, tenure track faculty position at the rank of County Agent III (equivalent to Assistant Professor).
The position will provide leadership and support for the commercial agricultural industries in Cumberland County and throughout the southern region of NJ with specific emphasis and expertise in commercial production of nursery stock, both containerized and in-ground, with emphasis in plant pathology, entomology, soilless media, invasive/native species and soil sustainability/crop rotation.

Minimum Education and Experience:
Bachelor's and Master's degrees required from accredited institutions in horticultural science, agricultural science, entomology, plant pathology or related field
Three years minimum of post-degree professional experience required for appointment to the rank of County Agent III (equivalent to Assistant Professor)
Research experience in experimental design, data collection, evaluation and analysis is preferred
Effective public speaking and presentation skills for program delivery and communications to clientele are required
Supervisory or managerial experience as it relates to staff and volunteer management is preferred. Evidence of successfully training, mentoring, and evaluating staff, ensuring the requirements and objectives of program assessment, outreach, and evaluation
Ability to work cooperatively and communicate with staff and clientele
Computer proficiency is required
Current NJDEP Pesticide Applicators License in the appropriate categories (3ABC and/or 10), or ability to acquire same within 9 months post-hire
A valid driver's license or ability to acquire said license is a necessity for the performance of this position.
Ability to work evenings and weekends as needed
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Provide leadership and expertise to develop, implement, and evaluate educational programming and applied and evaluative research appropriate to the needs of the clientele in commercial production of nursery stock, both containerized and in-ground, with emphasis in plant pathology, entomology, soilless media, invasive/native species and soil sustainability / crop rotation.
Maintain knowledge and provide assistance in marketing, inventory management / drone applications, water management, propagation, and cost accounting in wholesale nursery production agribusinesses, in general enhanced business and cultural management practices to maximize farm income while minimizing environmental impacts
Assimilate and disperse timely (i.e. relevant to current issues) research information
Design and implement applied or evaluative research with measurable impacts on clientele and the profession
Collaborate with farmers and agricultural groups, municipal, county, and state governments, and non-governmental organizations in the county and region to advance agricultural retention, farm management, and economic development opportunities
Assess needs and share research-based information to achieve knowledge gain and skills development, and document changes in clientele practice or conditions
Contribute to the effective operation of the county Extension office
Coordinate implementation of programmatic efforts with fellow RCE faculty and staff and other regional partner institutions to develop outreach/education methods and materials
Garner external resources through grants and contracts, and alternative funding streams for support of the program
Participate in appropriate Departmental, Cooperative Extension, New Jersey Agricultural Experiment Station (NJAES), School of Environmental and Biological Science, Rutgers University and county administrative functions
Meet on an annual basis with stakeholders to assess and discuss the needs of the industry and community
Establish an outstanding program in commercial nursery production, the merits of which will lead to regional and/or national recognition
