The Department of Political Science invites applications for a tenure track position at the rank of assistant professor. This position will begin Fall 2019.
The successful applicant will specialize in International Law and International Organizations with a particular emphasis upon global human rights issues in addition to the constitutionally mandated core courses in U.S. and Texas Government and Politics. The successful candidate should demonstrate potential to achieve tenure and promotion within the framework provided by university policies and procedures. Productive scholarship and effective service to the department, college, university, and community will be expected.
MAJOR/ESSENTIAL DUTIES OF JOB:
The successful candidate will contribute to the missions of the department, college, and university.
The candidate will demonstrate excellence in teaching, service, and research.
Develop and teach courses in the following areas: International Law, International Organizations, and International Human Rights at both the graduate and undergraduate level.
The candidate will maintain a continuous plan for curriculum development, review, and revision, and use course evaluations from students, input from other faculty, and alumni to continuously improve.
Teach courses in the state mandated core on the government and politics of the U.S. and Texas.
Provide service to the department, college, university, and community.
Research and scholarly output appropriate to the position.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Ability to contribute to graduate recruitment
REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Ph.D. or related degree (such as the J.D.) in Political Science or a related field with a specialization in International Law and International Organizations
(Candidates who are ABD will be considered provided all requirements for the Ph.D. are completed by employment date)
Ability to teach core courses in U.S. and Texas Government and Politics
Ability to teach courses related to international human rights
PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Teaching experience at the university level
Ability to teach research methods, either qualitative or quantitative
Scholarly presentations at regional, national, and/or international conferences or publications.
Record of university service
Ability to contribute to the departmentâ™s graduate certificate program in Holocaust/Genocide Studies.
Evidence of successful undergraduate teaching
