We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Research Data Associate.
The Research Data Associate will work on the study Optimization of Post-Operative Surgical Decision Making, Marcovalerio Melis, MD, Principal Investigator. This study will focus on triage following surgery and its impacts on healthcare delivery and patient outcomes. The Research Data Associate will work primarily at VA New York Harbor Healthcare Systems Manhattan campus. S/he will be responsible for data collection, management, and analysis; study regulation, including IRB submissions and management; and maintaining communication among team members.
Demonstrate thorough knowledge of research study, study rationale, study subject, and clinical procedures associated with the study.
Demonstrate knowledge of research policies and procedures and relevant patient safety policies and procedures of the VA Medical Center in Manhattan and the regulatory requirements such as IRB.
Maintain study databases of information collected from review of electronic medical records, surveys administered to patients, and interviews with providers.
Assist in coordinating study meetings and regular communication among a wide variety of personnel, including but not limited to the PI, Co-Investigators, consultants, clinical staff, IT staff, and research assistants.
Write, submit and manage IRB documentation for each assigned study.
Assist in the creation and implementation of the patient and provider surveys.
Participate in the development of conference submissions and presentations and manuscripts for publication.
Attend project staff meetings and assist in partnership activities.
Provide regular updates on the study progress toward goals set forth in the protocol.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Additional Position Specific Responsibilities:
1. Demonstrates knowledge of the organizations Core Values and incorporates them into the performance of duties. 2. Data Management Responsible for collecting and auditing information for the research project. Sources of data will include patient medical records (VA Computerized Patient Record System), surveys administered to patients, and interviews with providers who volunteer to participate in the study. Audits and manages data from and into the database. Prepares forms and reports, compiles and analyses data, statistics, and other materials for reports. Conducts study visits, obtains and documents information within the time frame specified. 3. Reporting and Analysis Researches, compiles and consolidates data and conducts preliminary analyses to data collected for presentation to the study team and to sponsoring and regulatory agencies. Provides reports to all necessary parties (e.g., the principal investigator, sponsoring agency, etc.) on the progress of the study as needed. Formulates, prepares database and generates preliminary measurement reports for review by PI. Administers or supervises RAs administration of surveys to patients and provider participants. 4. Human Subjects Research As applicable, oversee the submission of necessary documents required by the VA Institutional Review Board (IRB), NYU Office of Clinical Trials and any other appropriate parties in order to obtain approval to conduct human subjects research (e.g., ensures the update and submission of necessary documents and/or forms to appropriate destination). Might prepare, audit and submit monthly enrollment statistics to the Office of Clinical Trials, and provides other information in timely manner, as necessary. 5. Study Regulations Aware of study regulatory status and keeps an up to date copy of regulatory documents. Assists with the informed consent process and ensures that the patient/subject fully understands what is required of them throughout the study. Follows through regularly with the patient/subjects reminding them of visits and compliance. Monitors for any adverse or serious adverse events during the course of the study and reports these to the Principal Investigator and other relevant stakeholders. 6. Continuous Learning - Position requires ongoing continuing education in all areas of research development (training programs are provided through the SOM). Promotes own professional growth and development in research role and maintains current expertise in area of practice. Maintains annual requirement of 10 CEUs in continuing research education; employee must demonstrate proof of ongoing research education. Serves as a resource to peers and works collaboratively with other disciplines within the area of expertise. 7. Decision Making and Problem Solving Combines and evaluates information and data to make decisions about relative importance of information and chooses the best solution to solve problems. Resolves complex situations and refers non solved issues and questions with recommendation to supervisor. 8. Other Participates in special projects and performs other duties as required.
To qualify you must have a Associate's degree plus one year related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience. Computer literate with good interpersonal, writing and verbal communication skills.
1. Knowledge of basic medical terminology is preferred. 2. Experience working in an Academic Medical Center preferred. 3. Experience working with REDCap.
