The Thompson Center for Autism and Neurodevelopmental Disorders and the Department of Special Education seek a candidate for an innovative position that integrates teaching, advising, and clinical program coordination for our Master's level students and clinicians. The candidate selected will work collaboratively with faculty and staff at the Thompson Center for Autism and Neurodevelopmental Disorders and with the College of Education.
An earned doctorate in Applied Behavior Analysis or Special Education
Continue to build and develop the Master's program and Graduate Certificate in ABA through the University of Missouri
Develop materials and teach as a primary instructor for courses in these programs
Assist in recruitment, application screening, and interviewing of graduate students
Coordinate practicum placements for students in both the Master's program and Graduate Certificate program
Manage placements at the Thompson Center for approximately 15 students per semester to attain required hours of direct experience implementing ABA practice
Direct supervision, training and feedback to graduate students attaining practicum hours to complete their degree and prepare for the BCBA exam
Assist in the coordination of practicum placements for students in both the Master's program and Graduate Certificate program
Manage placements at the Thompson Center for approximately 15-20 students per semester to attain the required hours of direct experience implementing ABA practice
Direct supervision, training, and feedback to graduate students attaining practicum hours to sit for the BCBA exam
Co-supervision of BCBAs currently working in the Applied Behavior Intervention Services (ABIS) clinical division at the Thompson Center
Assist in assessment and treatment planning for clients of the Thompson Center
Provide BCBAs opportunities for career and skill development through feedback and training
Co-direction of the Severe Behavior Clinic (SBC) and Early Intensive Behavior Intervention (EIBI) services at the Thompson Center
Conduct assessments related to problem behavior and assessments related to skill building
Participate in assessment and treatment planning as well as giving feedback on curriculum and current practice
Initiation, implementation, and monitoring of the Autism Curriculum Encyclopedia (ACE) throughout the ABIS division to improve data collection, progress monitoring, and evidence-based intervention for skill building
Conduct ABA-based research projects in the ABIS division at the Thompson Center
Continue with current lines of research
Supervise research projects involving clinicians
Supervise and provide feedback on master's students research projects
Present findings at regional and national conferences from research conducted at the Thompson Center
Publish in journals relevant to the field of ABA
Candidates will be Evaluated on the Following Factors:
Experience teaching college-level courses
Proven project management and organization skills
Ability to advise and provide instructional supervision to a diverse graduate student body
Content expertise in various special applied behavior analysis content areas
Evidence of participation in state and national professional organizations
Commitment to and experience with diversity and inclusion
Experience in research or teaching of Skinner's Verbal Behavior and Organizational Behavior Management (OBM)
Clinical experience supervising BCBAs
Experience implementing Early Intensive Behavior Intervention programs for children with autism spectrum disorder

The Department of Special Education (SPED), in its 50 th anniversary, is one of five academic units within the MU College of Education. SPED offers programs for students seeking undergraduate, master's and doctoral degrees. The undergraduate program is focused on pre-service teacher preparation in mild/moderate cross-categorical disabilities. Master's programs, both on-line and on-campus, focus on advanced teacher professional development in areas including: Applied Behavior Analysis, Early Childhood Special Education, Gifted Education, Cross Categorical, Behavioral Disorders, Learning Disabilities, and Autism Education. Department Faculty continue to be successful in securing federal funding to support Masters students through federal training grants. The department offers Doctoral programs to establish leaders in the area of research and teacher preparation in the following areas: Behavioral Disorders, Autism, Learning Disabilities, Special Education Administration, and Early Childhood Special Education. All admitted doctoral students are supported with tuition and fiscal support through departmental funding as well as federally funded programs.
SPED faculty members are consistently recognized – internationally and across the U.S. – for their individual and collaborative research excellence. SPED is home to several state and federally supported training, demonstration, and research projects, including the Center for School-Wide Positive Behavioral Supports, the Center for the Prevention of School Violence, the Center for Social and Behavioral Competence, and the Thompson Center for Autism and Neurodevelopmental Disorders. The department has the highest per faculty member external funding average in the College of Education.
About the College: The College of Education is ranked among the top doctoral granting colleges of education in the country. Today, the College has a student population of approximately 1000 undergraduates and 1,600 graduate students, and over 100 faculty. The College is financially well positioned to invest in innovation.
