Macon Bibb County Government is looking for a dynamic, professional leader for our Director of Solid Waste position. The individual selected will be responsible for managing, planning, organizing, and directing the Solid Waste Department which includes Sanitation and Landfill Operations.
MINIMUM EDUCATION, TRAINING AND/OR EXPERIENCE TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
The Director of Solid Waste should possess, at a minimum, Bachelor’s degree preferred from an accredited college or university in Business or Public Administration or related field; a minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in Solid Waste or Landfill Management with a minimum of three (3) years of supervisory experience; or any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties and responsibilities of the position.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The following duties are representative of the work required for this job. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.
Plans, organizes, directs, manages, and supervises the overall activities and administration of the Solid Waste Department including garbage collection, landfill operation, and recycling collection.
Assists with the development and administration of the Department budget; writes specifications for all capital purchases; reviews bids for materials and equipment; approves all purchases for the Department.
Ensures that maintenance schedules and major repairs are completed on equipment.
Ensures the proper scheduling of collection routes in keeping with collection volumes and distances.
Maintains ongoing review of solid waste operations to insure efficiency of operations and adherence to federal, state, and local regulations.
Interviews, hires, trains, schedules, assigns, advises, supervises, evaluates, and disciplines personnel as appropriate.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Must possess a valid Georgia Driver’s License.
Must possess or be willing to complete State of Georgia’s Certification for Landfill Operators.
Must pass a vision test for night driving.
Must be available after normal work hours on an emergency need basis.
