The Innovation & Commercialization office assists faculty and researchers throughout the Indiana University system in realizing the commercial potential of their discoveries. Innovation & Commercialization protects the rights of the inventor and the university by obtaining intellectual property protection for IU discoveries and markets the discoveries for commercial use, either by licensing to existing companies or by helping create start-up companies.
This position directs the technology commercialization process for the IUPUI Innovation and Commercialization team. The incumbent manages the solicitation and evaluation of invention disclosures, protection of intellectual property, and marketing and licensing inventions. Directs the management of a portfolio of disclosures from IU investigators and all aspects of preparation, negotiation and acceptance of agreements and contracts.
Additional Information: This position requires access to technology that is subject to export control requirements. Successful candidates must be qualified for such access without an export control license.

REQUIRED: Bachelor's Degree in life sciences, biomedical science and/or technology; OR Advanced Degree in life sciences, chemistry, medical and/or business, plus 7 years' experience in technology commercialization and employee management/supervision experience. Possess a valid driver's license with the ability to be insured by Indiana University.
Expert working knowledge of intellectual property protection methods, contract law, and government laws and regulations related to technology commercialization. Demonstrated ability to interact effectively with academic faculty, administrators, and members of industry, and to lead people and attain results through others. Excellent analytical, marketing and negotiation skills. Life science/engineering expertise (as applicable) and the ability to handle complex subject matter. Commitment to confidentiality. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and various databases.
Working Conditions/Physical Demands:
This position requires ability to travel to all IU campuses and other locations as directed.
Remaining in a stationary position for long periods of time and in front of a computer, light moving of equipment. High degree of mental concentration is important to ensure accuracy. Ability to work with constant interruptions. With frequent interruptions, the mental effort for completing complex tasks is constant.
