Assistant Professor of Physical Fitness/Wellness/Fire Technology

Job Description: Responsibilities Instructs and/or coordinates courses for the wellness and fire academy programs related to fitness and wellness; revises curriculum as necessary to incorporate updated and new technology; responsible for the development and administration of physical fitness tests including aerobic capacity, muscular strength, endurance, and power; conducts pulmonary function testing, 12 lead ECG, and body composition assessment; maintains accurate records of student enrollments and attendance; monitors academic progress; keeps abreast of new and supplemental technical and educational materials; participates and serves on advisory committee for Rancho Santiago Community College District and attends State and local fire related meetings; undertakes the departmental responsibilities of a regular faculty member; assumes and performs related duties and responsibilities. This job will require traveling to various locations in Orange, Riverside, San Diego, and Los Angeles counties.
Job Qualifications: Requirements Minimum Qualifications (Applicants must meet one of the following): • Possess from an accredited institution: A master's degree in kinesiology, physical education, exercise science, education, with an emphasis in physical education, kinesiology, physiology of exercise or adaptive physical education, OR Bachelor's in any of the above AND Master's in any life science, dance, physiology, health education, recreation administration, or physical therapy, OR • Possess a valid California Community College credential authorizing service in the discipline, OR • The equivalent (applicants who do not meet the above minimum qualifications must complete the Equivalencies Section in the application form and provide conclusive evidence of such).
Desirable Qualifications • Certification with American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) and/or Certification with the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) CSCS and/or TSAC. • Recent experience teaching at the college/university level. • Recent experience with tactical populations (fire, police, military) in the area of fitness, strength and conditioning and/or wellness. • 12 lead ECG coursework or experience. • Online teaching certification. • Knowledge of computer technology (i.e. web design). • Experience in teaching students from diverse ethnic and cultural backgrounds and widely varying levels of proficiency preferred. • A working knowledge of and experience with student learning outcomes and assessment.
