The Department of Pediatric Chairman's Office seeks a Human Resources Specialist. This position would be responsible for directing and assisting with the daily HR operations for a large division within the Department of Pediatrics (Wells Research Center). This includes performing human resources generalist functions such as employee relations, recruitment and staffing, performance reviews, policy development, and FMLA/LOA. This position will assist supervisors and faculty by managing the hiring process, processing visas, instructing and assisting the faculty in administrative procedures as well as problem solving.
Primary Responsibilities Include:
Manage the recruiting, hiring, pre-boarding and onboarding of new faculty and staff members. This includes creating and updating job descriptions, posting positions, overseeing interview process with faculty/ staff, and onboarding selected candidate. Initiate 1-9s, background checks, visa-related paperwork (Prepare visa documents for foreign national employees to include new visa and renewals for J1, H1B and PERM process), employment verification and reference checks. Coordinate logistics and registration process for IUSM new employee welcome. Serve as a liaison with the University and campus Human Resources Offices, Office of Equal Opportunity, and Office of International Affairs to ensure compliance with university regulations and timely completion of all necessary paperwork in the recruiting and hiring process.
Manage employee relations issues. Assist division with all HR functions for faculty and staff positions. Advise management regarding evaluation of employee performance, corrective actions, and effective problem resolution; consult with all levels of employees regarding policies and procedures in order to achieve the goals and objectives of the department. Facilitate communication among employees and management. Guide managers and employees on problem solving, dispute resolution, and compliance. Maintain awareness of legal implications and laws governing employee relations.
Establish new positions as needed. Recommend promotions and salary increases for staff and work with campus and university Human Resources Administration on creating and upgrading staff positions. Provide information and guidance to managers in regard to job description revision, recommending equitable salaries paid to comparable positions, and maintaining accurate and current job descriptions. Maintain updates to the Central HR Information Systems (CHRIS) database.
Provide assistance and back up Manager of Human Resources. Provide backup on approving eDocs and learning payroll functions.
Create, review, revise, analyze, and implement departmental policies and procedures. Disseminate information regarding new and updated procedures including but not limited to, compliance, benefits, employment policies, and staff/faculty policies. Additionally, maintain knowledge of current developments in human resources regulatory practices (Federal and State) for policy implementation and practice purposes.
Other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED: Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution, preferably in human resources, psychology, business or related field, plus 2 years of experience in human resources, preferably in a college or university setting dealing with academic or staff hires.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite. Excellent computer knowledge and ability to learn new systems.
SHRM-CP/SCP or SPHR/PHR Certification.
