Position Summary: We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Supervisor, Food + Nutrition.
In this role, the successful candidate Responsible for supervising assigned staff within Food and Nutrition Services to evaluate productivity and quality of service to ensure and provide satisfactory patient food services. Provides services ensure compliance with hospital and NYS regulations
Evaluates, discipline and makes recommendations regarding hiring of employees to manager.
Completes all required documentation for the area.
Assure that the diet office is stocked with the necessary supplies and menus. Maintains the necessary supply of menus for patient meal service on a daily/weekly basis. Orders supplies necessary for the diet office as needed.
Participates in cost control activities by seeking the most effective methods of delivering service and maintains an awareness of the cost impact of decisions and actions. Evaluates, practices, and identifies areas of excessive material and/or labor cost. Arrange work to reduce and/or avoid overtime. Uses supplies efficiently.
Completes quality assurance activities in accordance with NYUMC policies and procedures. Monitors and ensures that daily, weekly, and monthly quality assurance activities are maintained (either through own action or by delegation to staff employees) including pantry refrigerator temperature logs and nourishment accuracy/acceptance audits. Summarizes quality assurance activities on a weekly/monthly basis including pantry refrigerator temperatures, nourishment audits, and supervisors' monthly reports. Performs quality assurance audits on nourishment acceptance, senior diet aide menu checking, and cardex updating; recommends nourishment changes as needed.
Attends, plans, and holds meetings and in-services for senior diet aides. Trains new staff effectively, instructs them in their position responsibilities and the policies and procedures of the dietary area. Attends meetings, and in-services within NYULMC and outside of the medical center on a regular basis.
Counsels and disciplines employees when necessary, in accordance with the Collective Bargaining agreement and NYULMC personnel policies and procedures. Insures that employees dress code regulations are followed according to NYUMC and food service standards.
Supervises and assigns senior diet aide employees to daily floor assignment. Schedules senior diet aide employees on a daily basis; adjusts schedules as necessary. Provides needed coverage of work area while maintaining authorized staffing levels. Monitors the work of staff to insure that they are carrying out their assignments correctly. Explains to the employee clearly what his/her responsibilities are and the standards of performance which will be used to evaluate them. Brings to the employees attention areas of performance needing improvement soon as they are recognized with a plan and a time frame for correction. Documents the employee's performance on an ongoing basis. Evaluates the performance of each employee upon completion of the probationary period and thereafter, on an annual basis in accordance with personnel policies and procedure when performance dictates the need. Establishes goals and objective for each employee and a target date for their completion as part of the evaluation process; follows up with employee to monitor their progress.
Completion of 90 hours course in Food Service Management within one year of hire. Minimum of two years experience in food service in a supervisory role. Effective oral, written communication and customer service skills.
Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree in Food and/or Nutrition or in a related field. Minimum of two years supervisory experience in an institutional food service environment
