Comprised of 1,606 private and public member high schools, the Californian Interscholastic Federation (CIF) has been the governing body of education based athletics since 1914. The Federation is directed, at the State level, by a council of school and school board approved representatives from the 10 geographical regions as well as representatives of statewide educational organizations including the California Department of Education. The CIF Executive Director interprets rules, manages the governance process, is responsible implementing a comprehensive strategic plan, supervises the operation of regional and state championships and directs operations of the state office and all its functions.

Demonstrated understanding of the value of education based athletics and activities to students, to the school and to the community.
Familiarity with the challenges facing education based athletics today.
Successful experience in high school or school district administration in the principalship or superintendency,or
Successful experience in a position with significant and parallel responsibilities in the field of interscholastic athletics.
Demonstrated ability to communicate – both in in written and verbal form – to small and large groups, as well as individuals.
Basic technology skills.
Expertise in a variety of decision makings kills–including consensus building, mediation ,priority setting, and collaboration.
Proven leadership skills including(1)ability to define a vision for the organization and its programs,(2) ability to define tactics and strategies to implement the vision,(3)persistence in implementation of a strategic plan, and (4) ability to persuade others to commit to the success of the vision and organizational goals.
Organizational management skills including ability to advance work on many tasks at one time, budget development and management skills, facility with strategic planning, personnel management, time management, attention to detail and experience in interpretation of rules and regulations.
Knowledge of school law and education code regarding athletics.
Ability and experience with legislation and political lobbying.
Personal qualities, including integrity, courage, energy, sensitivity, strong listening skills and ability to work with diverse interests.
