The Office of the Vice Provost for Research (OVPR) is responsible for pre-award and non-fiscal post-award administration of grants and contracts; supporting investigators in developing proposals and funding strategies for their research and scholarship; protection, management, and licensing of the University's intellectual property; oversight of the use of human subjects and laboratory animals in research and teaching and the use of infectious agents and recombinant DNA; implementation of the University's policies on conflict of interest in research and misconduct in research and scholarship; and working with other administrative offices to create an environment at the University that encourages and facilitates research. The OVPR ensures that the services and resources provided by the units under its direction meet the needs of the research community and satisfies the requirements of laws and regulations that govern research, and protecting the University's interests. This includes policy development, strategic planning, and oversight. The OVPR also works closely with the research leadership of the schools and Tufts Medical Center to promote cooperation, collaboration, and sharing of resources to maintain a positive working relationship between the schools and with the hospital. Additionally, the OVPR maintains close working relationships with faculty and department chairs in order to keep abreast of the needs and direction of research and to foster an environment of open communication and responsiveness.
Under minimal supervision and with extensive latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment, the Sr. Research Administrator will provide research administration pre- and post-award support to investigators at the department/school and/or central level across Tufts University. Assignments will be determined by the assessment of the university needs and may change during the term of the appointment. The position supports investigators in proposal development and preparation and in post-award management as outlined in detail below. The incumbent is expected to be a content expert and to provide competent advice to investigators and staff in interpreting sponsor rules and regulations. Duties will also include mentoring junior research administration personnel, assisting investigators and staff in navigating research administration tools and systems, proactively identifying, proposing solutions and working towards resolution of complex matters.
The following required knowledge and skills as typically acquired by completing Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
5+ years of research administration experience
Knowledge of funding agencies and their programs
Knowledge of regulations that govern federal research funding and related areas of regulatory compliance
Demonstrated organizational and leadership skills
Excellent prioritization skills, strong analytical, problem-solving and decision-making skills
Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work in collegial, supportive manner with faculty and staff
Excellent communication skills, both written and oral
Demonstrated ability to manage multiple assignments with tight, concurrent deadlines and with frequent interruptions
Proficient with MS Office applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and internet
Proficient with electronic grants management systems (i.e., grants.gov, NIH eRA Commons, NSF Fastlane, ProposalCentral, etc.) and experience with enterprise research administration systems
Designation of Certified Research Administrator (CRA), Certified Pre-Award Administrator (CPRA), or Certified Financial Research Administrator (CFRA)
Experience with Kuali Coeu
Special Work Schedule Requirements:
This position requires occasional travel between campuses. In addition, individuals hired for this position may be asked to work from another campus
