Claremont Graduate University seeks a seasoned enrollment management leader with a track record of effective, transformational leadership and positive enrollment results in the graduate and online sectors. This leader will serve as a key member of an experienced executive leadership team and help drive the University toward continued enrollment growth and innovative enrollment partnerships at a pivotal moment leading up to the institution’s Centennial in 2025.
The Vice President of Enrollment Services is the University’s chief enrollment officer and strategist, and provides institutional leadership for the strategic enrollment management plan and the attainment of University enrollment goals. S/he oversees admissions, financial aid, international enrollment, online enrollment, recruitment marketing, student engagement/retention efforts and targeted student services across the University. In collaboration with the Deans/Directors of CGU’s academic units, the University’s Executive Team, the Dean of Admissions and Financial Aid, and the Director of Student Engagement, the VP shares responsibility for institutional enrollment, and skillfully drives the University toward desired enrollment results.
The incumbent provides strategic and operational guidance for both the vision and results of integrated recruitment, retention, financial aid and recruitment marketing initiatives in connection with the University’s mission and strategic plan; advises enrollment policy; helps lead the institution toward innovative domestic and international enrollment partnerships; and serves as a member of the University’s executive team and its enrollment conduit to the Board of Trustees.
Creates and implements the strategic enrollment management plan.
Work with enrollment management leadership, the Finance Office and Academic Deans to assess, set and monitor institutional and school enrollment and financial aid budgets each fiscal year.
Partners with and supervises the Dean of Admissions and Financial Aid to establish and monitor new student enrollment goals and the development of proactive, personalized recruitment and financial aid strategies.
Advises and advocates for continual enhancement of best practice enrollment management tactics, including but not limited to recruitment events, recruitment marketing and communication flow, financial leveraging and literacy, segmented academic campaigns, funnel management, contact and outreach campaigns, retention strategies, and faculty recruitment and retention initiatives.
Supports and creates a culture that challenges, recognizes, rewards and develops employees to expand their skills and effectiveness, and grow with the institution’s enrollment management team.
Helps motivate recruiters and student success teams and personnel across the University to provide exceptional student service; honor diversity; and meet institutional enrollment goals.
Partners with Advancement, academic leadership and faculty to identify and pursue innovative and robust domestic and international partnerships that increase CGU’s brand footprint regionally, nationally and internationally and build enrollment pipelines.
Advises and advocates for effective new program development and new program launches.
Works closely with the Dean of Admissions and the Marketing and Communications team to continually hone and implement effective recruitment marketing and brand awareness strategies and to continually develop and enhance the web as a recruitment tool.
Works closely with the Dean of Admissions and Director of Financial Aid, to ensure the University remains in compliance with federal financial aid requirements and effectively leverages University funds to enroll and retain qualified students.
Works with enrollment team, Finance and Institutional Effectiveness to provide strategic leadership on peer and competitor pricing analysis, and financial aid modeling and leveraging.
Works in partnership with University data governance teams and the Office of Informational Technology to advise the University on enrollment technology tools and practices; supports a technology and data-driven culture that effectively supports both employees and students.
Works in partnership with the Office of Institutional Effectiveness and data governance teams, to support robust monitoring and reporting of enrollment metrics, outcomes statistics and student surveys.
Builds collaborative relationships within the University community and the Claremont Colleges, including all academic units, faculty, advising, registration, student accounts, support services, student affairs, international services, advancement, alumni relations and strategic partnerships.
Oversees institutional enrollment policy in conjunction with the Provost, Schools, and executive leadership.
Partners with outside vendors as needed, to meet enrollment goals
Develops and provides oversight and approval for delegaged departmental budgets (admissions, financial aid, enrollment management).
Establishes and monitors institutional retention benchmark data, goals and strategies, and addresses student satisfaction and other student feedback within the overall enrollment strategy.
Helps integrate the efforts of international recruitment, international services, and the International Scholars Program in partnership with the directors of each of those units.
Provides regular updates to the Faculty Executive Committee and/or the Faculty.
Helps integrate and elevate student life components (i.e. student activities, student and academic support services, housing, orientation) within the University and across the Claremont Colleges, to ensure CGU’s market position as leader in graduate enrollment experience is continually strengthened and reinforced.
Serves as a primary liaison with the Claremont Colleges, and helps guide cohesive 7C outreach campaigns aimed at continually raising the succession of 5C graduates into CGU’s graduate programs.
Chairs or co-chairs the Retention Committee and leads the student engagement team. Serves as one of the chief institutional conduits with school staff and program coordinators.
Serves on various university standing committees, including recruitment marketing; exec team; Deans Discussion Group; Strategic Planning; Data Governance Committee; Online Programming; and Student Academic Services.
Serves as a university representative for state and national organizations for admissions professionals.
Demonstrates and reflects an understanding of and commitment to the mission and core values of the university.
Engages in professional behavior that enables the achievement of individual goals while fully and positively supporting the dynamics and progress of all enrollment teams.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES:

Bachelor’s degree; advanced degree preferred, or any combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Minimum ten years experience as an enrollment leader at the Director, Dean, AVP or VP level, directly responsibility for enrollment results, preferably in small, private, tuition-driven, sales-service model institutions. Management experience required. A proven track record of goal attainment; clear understanding of enrollment management theory and practice; understanding of relevant technology and system usage; commitment to exceptional student service; expertise in data analysis; and the ability to plan strategically, and serve as a ‘mentor leader’ are required. Must possess a valid California Driver’s License and meet CGU’s authorized driver’s requirements. Successful completion of criminal background and DMV checks required for final candidate.
The regular hours for this position are 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., but will vary with University needs, and include occasional enrollment and University events on evenings and weekends.
