I. Summary: The mission of Hidden Valley 4-H Camp is to provide youth with a fun, residential camp experience under the guidance of positive role models that emphasize community building, positive social interactions, environmental awareness and skill building. The Junior Counselor's role is to assist counselors in supervising the campers and provide assistance in the areas assigned by the Assistant Manager and Program Manager.
II. Duration The summer camp season includes 1 week of pre-camp Staff Training starting on June 30 and 5 weeks of residential camp that run from Sunday morning to Friday evening each week. Specific dates camp is open are July 7– August 9, 2019. Additional weekend coverage will be required during the weekend stayover July 19-21 The Counselor Assistant will remain on camp until August 11to assist in the cleaning and closing of the camp facility.
III. Specific Responsibilities
Assists Senior Camp Counselor in responsibility for leadership and guidance of those campers in daily living, with special attention to: personal hygiene and safety, camper participation in all-camp activities, and meal time behavior and habits
Participates in all activities with their groups, making camp fun for campers, teaching skills, providing encouragement and support.
Assigned to kitchen help on to assist Assistant Food Service Manager and Food Service Worker with Kitchen duties
Assists with Cloverbud Day Camp program including the Thursday stay over
Be able to observe camper behavior in daily life, to respond verbally to health and safety concerns and to work through and report challenging behavior to Senior Camp Counselor in timely manner
Ability to flexible and realize that needs of campers are foremost.
Serve as a positive role model in language, appearance, and behavior
Must be 16 years of age by summer camp start date, June 30
CIT program participation
Experience as a camper and working with children preferred
Lifeguard Certification given extra consideration
Ability to work with peers
Incorporates Team Work and Flexibility into their daily work style
