Perform a variety of functions related to federal, state, and institutional financial aid programs, including awarding, monitoring, and reporting. Provide customer-service and counseling to prospective and current Denison students and serve as a liaison for the Office of Financial Aid to the Denison community. Advance the goals of the Office of Financial Aid, in support of the University Strategic Plan, working closely with the Director of Financial Aid.
Essential Job Functions:
Determine student eligibility for financial aid programs, ensuring federal and state regulatory compliance and institutional guidelines. Ensure accurate and timely processing of financial aid and analyze and monitor data and financial documents and reports to verify eligibility. Manage a caseload of counseling and awarding.
Counsel students and parents, with excellent customer service, about the financial aid process, eligibility, application process, verification, special circumstances, awards, costs, debt management, and financial literacy and planning.
Participate in department planning for financial aid operations and development of financial aid policy and procedures. Review and recommend changes or implementation for improved efficiencies and operations.
Work collaboratively with staff and faculty to educate, improve, and execute financial aid-related services to our students and campus community. Serve on Denison committees as a Financial Aid liaison.
Prepare and assist in making presentations regarding financial aid for various campus groups, high school groups, conferences, and workshops.
Represent the Office of Financial Aid and the University in a professional manner. Assist the Director of Financial Aid with projects.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge of the basic principles of federal financial aid programs and the financial aid process, including the FAFSA application, student eligibility, verification, and Satisfactory Academic Progress.
Excellent interpersonal skills; ability and commitment to maintain the highest degree of customer service and confidentiality.
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret business publications, technical procedures and government and education regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and policy and procedures. Ability to effectively present and respond to questions and requests from managers, colleagues, students, families, and the general public as a college and financial aid office representative.
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as award totals, discounts, interest, proportions, and percentages. Ability to apply quantitative and qualitative reasoning when making decisions or presenting data. Attention to detail is essential.
Collaborative team player with the ability to work with tact, diplomacy, and humor in a high-stress, deadline-driven environment. Ability to work independently with little supervision and demonstrate initiative. Contribute to and support Denison University's philosophy, mission, and strategic plan.
Outgoing, positive professional with strong presentation, listening, written, and verbal communication skills.
Strong demonstrated skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Two or more years of experience in financial aid at a post-secondary institution, preferably at a private institution that utilizes Institutional Methodology.
Experience working with Ellucian Banner SIS.
Experience with PowerFAIDS and the College Board's CSS Profile.
Experience with a CRM system.
