The Jemicy School located in Owings Mills, Maryland educates talented and bright college-bound students with dyslexia or other related language-based learning differences. The school is currently seeking a qualified candidate to serve as the Dean of Students on the lower/middle school campus. This leadership position reports directly to the L/MS Head of School and L/MS Assistant Head of School and is primarily responsible for supporting and advancing the mission and credo of the school, promoting and maintaining a healthy, vital student community and school climate, and fostering strong relationships with families and the extended community. In addition, this position will work closely with the administration and faculty to advance student achievement and establish guidelines for student behavior to ensure that all students are maximizing both their academic and social potential. Finally, the Dean of Students will support teachers’ efforts to carry out policies and fulfill day-to-day responsibilities.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
Monitor effectiveness and refinement of disciplinary policy and procedures (through teacher and administrative feedback).
Offer training and support to faculty in the areas of discipline, classroom management, and student/teacher interventions.
Monitor and enforce students dress code, organize all disciplinary documentation and facilitate disciplinary actions when necessary.
Coordinate with Camp Jemicy Directors to provide student support during summer camp program where needed.
Work closely with the school counselor to provide support for the student population.
Monitor faculty enforcement of policies and procedures and performance of assigned duties.
Monitor student behavior, meet with faculty about student behavior and communicate with parents regularly concerning student behavior.
Assist faculty and parents in developing student behavioral expectations
Oversee and occasionally lead Community Assemblies.
Provide support for the Student Life Team across both campuses when necessary.
Make recommendations for the hiring of new faculty.
Co-teach in services to foster social interactions and community.
Assist in developing programs and intervention strategies that promote positive student behavior.
Create opportunities for and assist with implementation of all student recreational programming: Athletics, Trips and Special Events, Student Government and Clubs.
Assist with the creation of special schedules for snow days, special assembly days, etc.
Teach social skills related classes
Other duties as assigned based on the needs of the school.

A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in student affairs, counseling, higher education or a closely related field.
Demonstrated experience and success working as a member of a school leadership team, community-based organization, or related field.
Demonstrated experience and knowledge of small learning communities.
Effective interpersonal skills in managing and interacting with diverse groups.
Solid presentation & public speaking skills.
Effective time management and executive function skills.
Demonstrated ability to work within a team environment.
Demonstrative ability to effectively manage conflict through quality decision-making and effective problem-solving.
Demonstrated ability to handle intense or controversial situations with grace, discretion, and diplomacy.
Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in counseling, education, social work or closely related field strongly preferred.
Experience in scheduling, developing, planning, and implementing student-centric activities and events.
Experience working in student life, student activities, residence life or related area
Experience as an advisor for student clubs and organizations.
Experience planning large events.
Experience in developing leadership programs.
Experience with budget management.
