Sexual Assault Counselor (Licensed Psychologist) Tenure-Track 12 month
California State University Fullerton is seeking applications for a career level tenure-track counselor (psychologist) faculty position in Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS). Under the general supervision of the Director, the selected candidate will provide a full range of clinical services (65%) and participate in campus outreach and other projects (35%). While this appointment has faculty status for collective bargaining purposes, it is a full-time, 12 month clinical position with limited teaching or research responsibilities. Successful candidates will have a doctoral degree in psychology, be currently licensed, and have expertise in addressing a wide range of developmental and psychological needs of a diverse college student population.
Position Direct Counseling Services: provide brief counseling and crisis intervention to survivors of sexual assault; provide intake interviews, brief individual, couples and group counseling, crisis intervention, case management and referrals to and consultation with on-campus and off-campus academic, disability, mental health and health professionals.
Outreach Services: Coordinates sexual assault services, prevention education, advocacy and outreach efforts campus wide. Conduct support groups in the WoMen's Center on campus.
Consultation: Offer consultation to students, faculty, staff, family members, and other healthcare providers for purposes of referring students to community and other resources (on or off campus).
Crisis Intervention Services: Provide expertise to the university community regarding issues that affect the educational, developmental, and psychological well-being of students; demonstrate the ability to provide crisis intervention and case management support for students in distress.
Required Qualifications Education/License
Doctorate in Counseling or Clinical Psychology from an accredited program.
Licensed/license eligible to practice psychology in California.
Experience and Skills: The candidate must demonstrate experience with the following:
Issues pertinent to a diverse college student population.
Working knowledge and experience with victims of sexual assault and rape.
Intake clinical interviews, including psycho-diagnostic assessment, case conceptualization, and treatment plan formulation, for students with a broad spectrum of psychological problems, ranging from adjustment issues to major psychiatric disorders.
Clinical experience providing crisis stabilization services in either a community mental health setting, or university counseling center
Short-term individual, couples and group counseling, and crisis intervention for psychological emergencies and high risk clients.
Knowledge, sensitivity and ability to work with students from diverse ethnic, cultural, sexual orientation, and socio-economic backgrounds, ranging in age.
Ability to develop and implement a broad range of outreach services, including consultation/mediation interventions, training modules, workshops, and presentations to the campus community on mental health issues and stigma reduction approaches.
Working effectively as a member of a multi-disciplinary team of professionals
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
Computer skills for electronic record keeping.
Must successfully pass a background check and pre-employment fingerprinting.
Specialization in an area pertinent to CSUF college students (e.g., sexual identity development; immigration and acculturation issues; trauma work; suicide prevention).
Experience and interest in coordinating counseling groups for students.
Experience and interest in working with sexual assault issues.
Experience and interest in providing outreach services and counseling to address underserved students.
Experience and interest in the provision of supervision to pre-doctoral interns.

Rank & Salary In the CSU system, this position is classified as a Student Service Professional - Academically Related Level I - tenure track. This is a full time 12 month position. Counselors in the CSU system serve as members of the academic faculty unit and are represented by the faculty union. Counselor faculty earn full tenure generally through a six year tenure process. Salary is competitive and is commensurate with experience and qualifications, however, there is no guarantee that an offer will be made above the beginning salary.
