The Director of Development (DD) fosters the culture of philanthropy within the organization. Assures that the organization’s corporate culture, systems and procedures support fund development and vice versa. Leads staff and volunteers to institutionalize philanthropy and fund development within Senior Home Sharing.
The DD plans, coordinates and assures implementation of strategies to develop donors and contributions to support Senior Home Sharing. This includes, but is not limited to: volunteer and donor management, research and cultivation, grant writing and reporting, gift processing and recognition, special events, direct mail, special initiatives and campaigns, and communication and marketing.
The DD manages all aspects of fund development, communications, and marketing. The DD shares in the responsibility for achieving the goals in SHS’s strategic plan, which calls for both growth in the number of seniors served, and in contributed revenue.
Provides vital input in short-and long-term strategic planning and positioning within the organization.
Evaluates and presents on the effect of internal and external forces on the organization and its fund development.
Leads the development, in cooperation with leadership, a balanced funding mix of donor sources and solicitation programs tailored to the needs of the organization that will enable it to attract, retain, and motivate donors and volunteers.
Represents SHS, its board and ED to donors, prospects, funders, volunteers, and community at-large.
Ensures compliance with all relevant regulations and laws, maintains accountability standards to donors and ensures compliance with code of ethical principles and standards of conduct for fundraising executives.
Maintains current on best practices and current trends regarding fund development, social media, NFP accounting, and governance.
Leads the development of direct mail solicitations, including year-end and spring direct mail campaigns. Provides reports to ED and leadership as to achievements and stewardship needs.
Serves as moves manager to top tier donors, all donors and prospects of $5,000+. Responsible for all cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship activities, working in partnership with relevant organization leaders.
Regularly communicates with ED and development committee chair on the status of SHS’s fund development program, revenue and expenses, and all factors influencing fund development.
Helps board members, organization staff and other volunteers identify, cultivate, and solicit contributed gifts.
Assures positive fiscal operation of fund development including timely, accurate and comprehensive development of contributed revenue and expense budgets, then implementation, monitoring, and reporting.
Master’s Degree in related field and 10 years related experience or equivalent combination CFRE distinction is preferred. Membership in professional fundraising association is expected.
The candidate is expected to have extensive knowledge and experience in developing and implementing a comprehensive fund development program and closing major gifts.
The candidate is expected to be a highly competent enabler of volunteers and staff.
Ability to identify high potential revenue sources and develop multi-year fundraising campaigns.
Comprehensive management skills and experience including but not limited to short and long-term planning, evaluation, directing and motivating staff and volunteers, oral and written communication skills, financial management, governance, and public speaking.
