As part of the Office of University Diversity and Inclusion, this position reports to the Vice President for University Diversity and Inclusion and the Chief Officer for Diversity and Inclusion (CODI). The Diversity and Inclusion Outreach Specialist provides leadership, represents the Office of University Diversity and Inclusion, performs functions that support diversity and inclusion initiatives and provides outreach to build collaboration in order to attain the university's inclusive excellence goals.

Minimum Qualifications (Staff Only):
Education and Experience:
Master's degree and five years of progressively professional experience in the area of diversity & inclusion or related area
Licenses, Certificates, Credentials:
Experience with organizational structures possessing an understanding of how to structure, build and implement higher-level goals to move an organization forward to foster a more diverse and inclusive campus;
Ability to represent the department in a professional and conscientious manner;
Demonstrated ability to maintain high quality/standards of work, leadership, ethics, commitment, and professional responsibility and judgment;
Ability to use tact and diplomacy to effectively handle a broad range of high level and sensitive interpersonal situations with diverse personalities, and to respond appropriately to conflicts and problems;
Ability to facilitate and foster communication and collaboration by maintaining a positive, cooperative, productive work environment with a diverse population;
Demonstrated ability to build consensus between and among a diverse body of individuals and groups (students, staff, faculty and administrators);
Ability to structure an agenda, lead meetings effectively and align meeting outcomes with the broader OUDI agenda;
Demonstrated ability to lead a project from its initiation to completion;
Ability to think outside the box, provide solutions and work as a team with OUDI staff;
Excellent communication skills and ability to communicate and present ideas and concepts in written, social media and presentation formats;
Research skills, including experience in qualitative and quantitative methodology. Skill in writing clear and concise analytical or narrative reports;
Ability to provide motivation and buy-in to accomplish desired outcomes;
Knowledge of current issues in diversity and inclusion scholarship, experience in gathering evidence and ability to communicate trends to a variety of constituents;
Demonstrated ability to maintain a high degree of confidentiality;
Excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to set own priorities to coordinate multiple assignments with fluctuating and time sensitive deadlines;
Experience identifying areas of improvement based on evidence;
Excellent computer skills and proficiency with a variety of computer applications including word processing, spreadsheets, databases, online systems, Internet as well as online calendaring and email;
Working knowledge of or ability to quickly learn University infrastructure, policies and procedures;
Experience working with students from underserved and underrepresented backgrounds and being able to represent their interests;
Graduate level knowledge on critical race theory and inclusive education reform;
Ability to communicate through various means (use of news media, websites, and social networking sites (Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn)
Master's degree in education or related field of study preferred.
Demonstrated skills in an institutional/educational environment utilizing a customer-oriented and service-centered attitude.

Must be willing to travel and attend training programs off-site for occasional professional development.
Must be able to work overtime, occasional holidays, and adjust working hours to meet special jobs. May be called back periodically to perform work as needed on an emergency basis.
The person holding this position is considered a 'mandated reporter' under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 as a condition of employment.
Must be able to successfully pass a pre-employment background/fingerprint check.
This position is a 'designated position' in the California State University's Conflict of Interest Code. The successful candidate accepting this position is required to file Conflict of Interest forms subject to the regulations of the Fair Political Practices Commission.
Full-time MPP employees are required to disclose outside employment at time of hire or within 30 days of taking additional outside employment subsequent to time of hire.
This position classification has been defined as 'Exempt' and is not subject to the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).
Retired CalPERS members selected for this vacancy must request and be approved for reinstatement from retirement prior to the start date. Employment of retired CalPERS members will typically be for 90 days or less and must be for work requiring specialized skills or for a bona fide emergency to prevent stoppage of business.
Following a conditional offer of employment, a background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily before any candidate may start work with Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may result in the withdrawal of the offer of employment.
