The VRLC is looking for a development professional with 5+ years of experience in development (a generalist with some experience and interest in developing major gifts). Reporting to—and in partnership with—the VRLC’s Executive Director, the Director of Development will cultivate existing donor relationships and build a pool of new individual donors to help fund the VRLC’s direct legal representation for survivors as well as its national programs. The ideal candidate will bring experience with organizations that have a mission focused on vulnerable populations, and comfort in talking about sensitive topics to a diversity of constituents.
Establish, implement, and evaluate annual and long-range development plans;
Manage and execute the organization’s fund development activities, including the day-to-day operations of cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship efforts (Shining Star Gala, individual giving, annual appeals, corporate support, special events, non-government grants, planned giving, and in-kind support);
Create and oversee development communications including newsletters, annual report, year-end appeal, foundation grants, and donor collateral;
Support the Executive Director’s moves management efforts with major donors and prospects;
Strengthen current development programs (e.g. monthly giving), and design and implement additional cost-effective development programs (e.g. peer-to-peer fundraising, pro bono attorneys group, young professionals group);
Engage the Board of Directors and other volunteers in the mission and fundraising plan of the organization; and
Supervise a part-time Development Associate who assists with the Shining Star event, fundraising database, and acknowledgments, along with creating social media posts and newsletters.
Minimum of 5 years in fundraising with increased leadership roles
Successful track record of cultivating and soliciting donors (annual fund, event sponsorships, and major gifts)
Strong communication skills (written and verbal)
Ability to manage staff and volunteer solicitors
High energy, flexible, and a creative thinker
Excellent computer skills and knowledge of fundraising database programs (eTapestry preferred)
