Under the supervision of the Assistant Director-Student Outreach, The Summer Residence Director (SRD) is a live-in professional who facilitates, creates, maintains, and promotes a just, purposeful, and secure residential community supporting the learning mission of the Skidmore College Opportunity Program. This position will play a pivotal role for the 2019 Summer Academic Institute that focuses on fostering education, social and community-focused opportunities for student growth and development. Responsibilities also include:
providing and supervising social, cultural, and recreational activities during the afternoons, evenings, and weekends; conducting nightly rounds to ensure the safety of all residents
maintaining an environment conducive to learning; providing personal, social, and academic peer counseling to students
assisting in the critical enforcement of policies, practices, and procedures; providing a reasonably safe learning environment for the students within the residence halls (including laundry, clean-up, etc).
encouraging students to take responsibility of their residence halls; attending regular weekly staff meetings
supervising SAI staff
hosting daily meetings with staff
supporting the Assistant Director with daily logistical challenges/planning
provide administrative assistance to the Opportunity Program Office
other duties as assigned by the director/assistant director.
The Summer Residential Director will also be responsible for overseeing the academic tutoring aspects of the summer program. Responsibilities include:
serving as the coordinator for tutor/community advisors
designing and implementing excel programs for the purpose of tracking tutor and tutee hours for required program reporting
ensure that an quiet atmosphere conducive to learning is maintained during evening tutoring hours
coordinating nightly meetings with tutors/staff before the start of tutorial sessions
communicate with the Assistant Director-Student Outreach reguarding student updates and tutorial reports
The Summer Residence Director is required to live in the residence hall for the duration of the five-week summer program including weekends, and participate in a week-long (June 23-June 28) residential staff orientation preceding the summer program.
Bachelors Degree with Residential Life experience working with students from low-income and first-generation backgrounds. Valid driver’s license.
Master’s Degree with 3+ years of Residential Life experience working with students from low-income and/or first-generation backgrounds.
