Department/College Description The College: The B. Thomas Golisano College of Computing and Information Sciences is the largest of RITs nine colleges, and has an enrollment of over 3,100 undergraduate students and 850 graduate students. The college, with over 140 faculty members, is housed in a modern facility equipped with numerous teaching and research laboratories. The college is home to the departments of Computer Science, Computing Security, Information Sciences and Technologies, Software Engineering, the School of Interactive Games and Media and a college-wide Ph.D. program, providing many opportunities for cooperation and research collaboration within and beyond the college.
The Department: The Ph.D. Program in Computing and Information Sciences is a use-inspired research program designed to produce independent scholars, well-prepared educators, and cutting-edge researchers who excel in computing and pursue interdisciplinary careers in academia, industry, and government. It leverages the breadth of RITs educational offerings and its scholarly emphasis on discovering solutions to real-world problems. With more than 70 participating faculty, including a small number of faculty whose home department is the Ph.D. Program, from six colleges and 72 current students, the program focuses on both the theoretical and practical aspects of computing and information sciences and their application to arts, business, engineering, humanities, medicine, and science. Since its inception in 2006, about one-third of our graduates have pursued academic careers in the U.S. and overseas, while the rest are thriving in industry R&D jobs at companies such as Google and IBM, Silicon Valley startups, and Wall Street.
Detailed Job Description Responsibilities:
Manage the PhD Office by coordinating and performing a range of staff as well as operational support activities for the unit (PhD director, faculty, staff and students) and affiliated faculty
Serve as liaison with other departments and operating units (GCCIS and other RIT entities) in the resolution of day-to-day administrative and operational problems
Manage PhD courses, course scheduling, seminars, student assessments, all meetings, student information and records, certification, graduation, financial aid
Support the faculty search process
Support the admissions process by working with Graduate Enrollment and PhD Admission Committee; assist in all activities related to recruiting of students. Coordinate with the International Student Services
OTHER DUTIES AS ASSIGNED.
Required Minimum Qualifications
5-7 years experience in higher education or research & development environments
Intermediate working knowledge or the ability to acquire such skills within the first three months, of PeopleSoft and Student Information Systems.
Advanced working knowledge of Microsoft Suite.
Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Excellent customer service skills.
Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
Excellent organizational skills.
Excellent analytical and problem solving skills.
Ability to work independently.
3-5 years working with PhD. students or graduate students
Advanced degree, preferable in a STEM discipline
Experience in working with researchers
Experience in research project coordination
5-7 years experience coordinating with Registrars Office, Office of Graduate Studies, Student Financial Services, Financial Aid, Graduate/Undergraduate Admissions, Student Employment, International Student Office, etc.
3-5 years experience supporting department chairs, faculty or research staff, experience as an office manager or research coordinator
