The Director of Veterans Services, under general direction, directs services and programs for veterans and other veteran benefit-eligible students. Directs orientation and transition services for veterans. The Director of Veterans Services is responsible for overseeing the appraisal, collation and certification of credit hours for VA education program chapters, toward approved academic and certificate programs for VA benefit recipients. The Director of Veterans Services collaborates with the records specialist, transcript analyst, financial aid office, business office and the graduation specialist in ensuring the student receives the necessary benefits thus leading to the timely completion of degree requirements for the VA student. This position has supervision responsibilities. This position is identified as a Campus Security Authority (CSA). A CSA reports non-personally identifying information to the Department of Public Safety related to incidents that fall within the Jeanne Clery Act. Working knowledge of and completion of annual training on the Jeanne Clery Act is required.
Develop, implement, evaluate policies and procedures for the Ted & Diane Connell Veterans Affairs Center (the Center) related to evaluated credit (JST), military tuition assistance, Veteran education benefits, and other services/programs dedicated to military affiliated students. In collaboration with IT and other institutional departments, maintain Banner student forms and third party systems related to military and Veteran education benefits. Establish goals and assessments, in coordination with the Executive Director, to gauge departmental success and promote continuous improvement. Research, propose, and implement programs designed to support successful transition of military affiliated students into higher education or workforce, and promote degree completion. Oversight for institutional processing of military and Veteran education benefits. Ensure compliance with applicable regulatory requirements. Conduct internal assessments to verify compliance. Serve as advocate for military affiliated students and assist in issue resolution as appropriate.
Manage departmental budget and expenditures for the Center to the extent authorized. Ensure expenditures are necessary and directly related to supporting the institutions enrollment goals. Responsible for hiring, training, and evaluation of departmental staff. Provides direct supervision of departmental staff with focus on high performance and exceptional customer service for students.
Monitor workloads and adherence to project timelines to ensure operations are functioning within expected performance standards. Communicate with campus community and external audiences regarding benefit programs, departmental services, and support programs. Assist with recruitment of military affiliated students. Serve on university committees and actively participate in external professional associations. Attend conferences and other meetings necessary to maintain knowledge of best practices related to military affiliated student services. Monitor data and provide reports as requested by administration related to operations to the Center.

Education â“ Bachelorâ™s degree in applicable field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience â“ Ten years of related experience working with veterans in a higher education setting.
Knowledge of â“ Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications. Knowledge of issues affecting Veterans.
Ability to â“ Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others. Excellent organizational, skills. Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Work beyond normal office hours and/or work on weekends.
Hours: Mon-Fri; 40 hours per week; occasional night and weekends as needed.
