The Degree Completion Office serves as a single point of contact for returning students who have earned some college credit and want to complete a high-quality degree or certificate program that aligns with personal and professional goals. The Degree Completion Office provides a holistic array of services, from inquiry through first weeks of the initial semester and beyond, to provide the necessary support to these returning students as they complete their degrees.
PRIMARYROLE: This position will be responsible for administering the Degree Completion Office and overseeing its staff to ensure the provision of quality service, communication, and support to all adult degree completers. The Director will maintain a high-level knowledge of transfer policies and processes as well as policies and processes for re-engagement of previously enrolled students, IUPUI admissions policies, academic policies and requirements, and student service policies and procedures to ensure that these are communicated to prospective adult students throughout enrollment periods. Build relationships with students through a variety of communication methods. Occasional weekend and evening work is required. Other responsibilities include attending transfer student and degree completion promotional events as well as collaboration, goal setting, and networking with faculty and staff.
Oversee operations of the Degree Completion Office. Ensure that adult students have a successful beginning at IUPUI, from point of inquiry through course enrollment (online degree programs) and beyond. Improve the effectiveness of retention efforts by ensuring that students receive individual advising and mentoring on a variety of topics and processes. Ensure that advisors document, record, maintain, and update detailed data on student progress using IU’s AdRx system. Support students through the admissions process by working on collaboration with transfer services, admissions and academic schools to help provide consultation on previous college credit transferability. Manage success coaching, onboarding, and career services provided to IU Online students per the contract with IU Online. Maintain close collaborations with the Offices of Transfer Student Services and Veterans and Military Personnel in order to comprehensively support the adult student population. Work as a member of a team within IUPUI to pursue and formulate campus goals related to adult student enrollment and success. Recommend strategies to Director of Undergraduate Admissions for meeting goals.
Ensure that advisors and other student services providers make regular contact per the office's strategic plan with enrolled degree completion students; take appropriate action to network with non-responsive, under-performing students. Provide positive, welcoming, friendly customer service via phone, email, online media and/or face-to-face communications. Evaluate enrollment processes for adult degree completion students and make recommendations to aid in retention and acclimation of student needs. Provide regular updates on key student services metrics to relevant stakeholders.
Lead effort to contact former IUPUI students who have stopped out to help them re-enroll in college and complete their degree. Develop and implement strategies for obtaining student contact information and contact strategies. Track contacts and enrollment to determine success rate of outreach campaigns.
Engage in environmental scanning of Indiana workforce development needs and actively develop relationships with community organizations and businesses to see how IUPUI can meet the needs of their employees. Serve as a relationship builder between community organizations and businesses and academic schools to move the development of academic opportunities forward. This may include enhanced prior learning assessment, new certificates, and additional online/onsite course offerings.
REQUIRED: Master's Degree in a related field from an accredited institution, plus 5 years of experience in higher education.
Excellent administrative and supervisory skills. Excellent collaboration and customer service skills. Ability to work with minimal supervision. To be effective, the DCO Director must be student-oriented, accessible, and connected to a variety of units and offices across campus. Ability to complete multiple tasks and work effectively to lead a team in a cross-functional environment. Ability to work outside normal business hours (early evenings, some Saturdays and possible holidays) Excellent computer skills including Microsoft Office programs, software and hardware troubleshooting. Prefer candidates with IU specific technologies including CRM data management and OneStart. Good organizational skills and attention to detail. Excellent interpersonal communication skills and ability to effectively communicate and exchange information. Creative problem solving skills.
