Departmental Overview BWRC is an established leader in university-industry-government research partnerships resulting from pioneering wireless system-on-a-chip (SoC) innovations. The Center has forged deep relationships with industry leaders to facilitate rapid technology transfer since being founded in 1999. BWRC provides an environment for research into core issues for future generations of wireless and wireline communication systems as well as a platform to expand graduate student instructional programs. Research focuses on highly-integrated CMOS implementations optimized for lowest energy consumption leveraging advanced communication algorithms and architectures. ASIC proof-of-concept prototype chips are fabricated using cutting-edge processes and are evaluated in a state-of-the-art, in-house laboratory. Center membership provides access to faculty and graduate students involved in a large interdisciplinary research effort with a modest investment. The critical-mass combination of UC Berkeley researchers, government funding and industry leading sponsors has the potential for making truly significant advances possible. BWRC consists of 60 graduate students and 7 faculty engaged in pre-competitive, public domain research. Application areas of interest include: low/ultra-low power analog, mixed signal and digital circuits, RF/mm-Wave/Terahertz circuits, advanced A/D, D/A converters, radio system architectures, algorithms and wireless radio SoCs, wireless bio-medical sensor systems, imaging systems and high speed wireline communications.
The Administrative Officer position involves managing or performing the administrative services or managing the full general operations of an academic or nonacademic organization(s). Administrative services includes activities in finance and human resources and may also include IT, facilities, or student services. General management includes long and short range strategic planning in determining the mission and directing all activities of multi-disciplinary departments through subordinate management staff.
Responsibilities 40% Administers a defined operational program or activities which may include some of the following functions: finance, facilities, payroll, space planning, student services, human resources, communications, informational technology or safety. Functions as a resource on issues such as escalated customer service problems and vendor concerns. Works with the BWRC faculty on meeting organization, business needs, and other administrative duties as required.
30% Gathers and analyzes financial and other resource data; prepares reports or analyses of operational activities, evaluation of current and proposed services, etc. Responsible for the completion of the center's annual report.
20% Assesses and recommends changes to maintain compliance with federal and state requirements and internal policies and participated in the development and revision of standard operating procedures and guidelines. Ongoing daily updates to BWRC webpages.
10% Conducts trends analyses and helps develop resulting recommendations.
Required Qualifications **Solid communication and interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with all levels of staff, both verbally and in writing. **Solid organizational skills and ability to multi-task with demanding timeframes. **Ability to use discretion and maintain all confidentiality. **Ability to use sound judgment in responding to issues and concerns.
Preferred Qualifications **Working knowledge of common campus-specific and other computer application programs. **Experience with web content management and Drupal a plus.
