As a member of the Hospital's senior management team, the Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) will participate in functional decision-making processes necessary to the successful attainment of the hospital's mission in addition to maintaining an awareness of changes in healthcare clinical matters that could have an impact on the success of the hospital. The CNO will oversee multiple departments within the hospital. This position reports directly to the hospital Chief Executive Officer.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Provide leadership to nurse employees that will enroll their support, create ownership of goals, and have them actively participate in decisions that impact the hospital
Establish standards for nursing practices and maintain authority, accountability and responsibility for nursing services
Maintain necessary regulatory, compliance approvals and quality accreditations
Partner with physicians who use, or will use, the hospital
Assist in planning new services that generate additional sources of profitable revenue
Create an environment that will encourage recruiting and retention of clinical employees
Manage costs by continually seeking data that will identify opportunities and act to eliminate non-value costs
Develop organizational patient care programs, policies and procedures that describe how nursing care is assessed, delivered and evaluated.
Develop and manage nursing services budget and ensure sufficient number of qualified staff to assess patient needs
Plan and provide nursing care interventions and prevent complications, promote improvement and patient comfort and wellness
Analyze areas in planning, promoting and conducting organization-wide performance improvement activities
Represent nursing services at all meetings including medical staff and hospital board of director meetings; participates with leaders in designing and providing patient care and services
Create a nursing environment that fosters collaboration and cultivates relationships across functions and departments
Transformational leadership to guide the organization to Magnet designation
Education and Experience:
Masters of Science in Nursing or Masters-degree in related field with Bachelors degree in Nursing required. Doctorate in Nursing Practice (DNP) is preferred and may become a future requirement for any incumbent who does not have their DNP.
Current licensure to practice in the state of Pennsylvania (or ability to obtain licensure).
Nursing Executive certification required.
Possess detailed knowledge of hospital nursing operations
Minimum of five (5) years of experience in healthcare leadership at the director level required.
Minimum ten (10) years of experience in providing bedside inpatient nursing care required.
Knowledge of clinical operations in ancillary clinical areas preferred.
Works with employees, physicians, all levels of hospital leadership, hospital board of trustees, patients and families, community constituents, and Tower Health executive leadership. Also works with vendors and other business partners.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with hospital staff, physicians, patients, and patient's families
Ability to maintain confidential information concerning personal, financial, or medical matters

Basic knowledge of performance improvement concepts.
