Last reviewed: April 16, 2018 JOB SUMMARY: The Supervisor of Diagnostic Radiology responsible for assisting the Management team in the supervision, planning, organizing and improvement of work processes in the Diagnostic & Fluoroscopy sections of Radiology as instructed by the Director and/or Radiologist. Performs departmental orientation, teaches, coaches, supervises staff and performs Radiographic exams. Ensures the organization's vision, mission, values and goals are understood and adhered to. Recommends and assists in development of policies and procedures to comply with regulatory organizations and Baylor Scott & White Health philosophy. Acts as a department liaison in the absence of the manager. WHAT IS EXPECTED (ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS): Responsible for ensuring there is adequate staffing, supplies and resources are available to perform the required Radiographic & Fluoroscopic Exams and Clinical Services up to 100% of the time. Schedules staff, patients as needed, assigns work to and approves overtime for subordinate personnel to ensure efficient flow of patients and optimum utilization of equipment and personnel. Performs procedures as needed due to workload or complexity of exams. Maintains current knowledge of Radiology trends, techniques, protocols, procedures and maintain skills on equipment to perform exams Maintains appropriate employee records and files, including competency, communication and correspondence. Interviews, counsels, and completes performance evaluations and merit reviews. Trains new staff and ensures all registrations/certifications are on file and up to date. Ensures the organizations vision, mission, values and goals are understood and adhered to. Collaborates with the management team and staff to conduct multidisciplinary staff meetings to ensure consistent and timely communication throughout the department of Diagnostic Radiology. Facilitates goal setting for staff working in the Diagnostic Radiology section. Monitors goals, achievements and ensures the outcome of the goals is reflected in the annual performance evaluations. Encourages employees to participate in Employee Satisfaction Surveys, Patient Safety surveys and other activities providing service feedback results to staff Initiates plan(s)of action related to areas of improvement. Provides the management team feedback related to new and replacement equipment, and operational concerns. Collaborates with Management to develop a budget for the Diagnostic Radiology section and oversees the performance. Provides input related to capital equipment needs. Monitors operational targets for the Diagnostic Radiology section and implements corrective action plans for negative productivity and operating expense variances. Responsible for promoting a culture of service excellence in the Diagnostic Radiology section that encourages quality service, enhances the image of the institution and promotes staff retention. Collaborates with Management to communicate service excellence and patient centeredness expectations and customer satisfaction survey results Holds self and staff accountable for service excellence in their areas of responsibility including establishing performance goals, monitoring them and working toward achieving them. Facilitates reward and recognition in the Diagnostic Radiology section. Consistently rounds in all areas of responsibility. Acts as a Radiology liaison to other Baylor Scott & White Healthcare departments. Develops and maintains cooperative working relationships with physicians and other medical center departments in order to gather and exchange information, develop and implement solutions to problems. Collaborates with management in reviewing, developing and implementation of specific policies and procedure. Assist in developing, reviewing, revising, submitting and implementing policies, procedures and objectives are consistent with BSWH. Supports and holds staff accountable for patient safety and patient care policies and procedures. In collaboration with Human Resources and management, the Supervisor interviews, hires and counsels personnel in areas of responsibility in accordance with Baylor Scott & White Health policies, procedures, and processes. Assists in ensuring the Diagnostic Radiology section is compliant with The Joint Commission, ACR, TDH and all other regulatory or accreditation requirements. Responsible for establishing processes to meet the standards and ongoing monitoring of compliance. Implements action plans to address any opportunities in support of maintaining compliance of patient safety goals and patient care outcomes. Oversees the delivery of Diagnostic Radiology services by the technologist during the 24-hour provision of services. Ensures quality of service with respect to turnaround times, quality of exams performed and working toward meeting and achieving benchmark goals. Ensures appropriate staffing provided for all shifts of operation. Monitors, evaluates and modifies staffing patterns in order to properly utilize assigned staff to provide services in assigned areas; prepares and modifies work schedules as needed to ensure adequate coverage of all shifts; approves paid time off, sick time and leave of absence requirements for assigned staff. Ensures licenses of all are current and documented as such. Investigates, resolves and documents the resolution of patient complaints concerning services provided in a timely and accurate manner. Ensure orientation, education and competency programs are implemented and monitored to help develop staff for career and growth opportunities. Works with management to develop and monitor the desired Quality Outcomes for the Diagnostic Radiology section and collaborates with other Clinical Managers to address quality issues. Holds staff accountable for desired outcomes. Continuously revises processes for operational improvement and efficiencies. Identifies patient service requirements by utilizing AIDET when communicating with patients to ensure they perform the correct exam on the correct patient, establishing personal rapport with potential and actual patients and other persons in a position to understand the service requirements Complies with federal, state, and local legal and professional requirements by studying existing and new legislation; anticipating future legislation; enforcing adherence to requirements; advising management on needed actions. Maintains all necessary professional and technical knowledge by attending staff meetings, educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies. Ensures the safety of patients, staff, and individuals within the infection-control standards including, monitoring and screening of individuals entering the Diagnostic Radiology section according to policies and procedures approved by the department. Patient Interaction: Communicates with staff and patients clearly and in a professional manner. - Ensures proper patient preparation, verifies screening protocols and answers questions - Demonstrate coordination and leads groups focusing on patient safety, customer service, performance improvement, environment of Care, Employee Engagement, Physician Engagement, Quality Improvement, Inter-Departmental Relations, etc. - Participates in shared governance, department, hospital, or professional organizations and committees. This can also include LEAN initiatives, 5S projects, inter-departmental committees or any professional organization participation, QC assurance with radiologist, etc. - Oversees committees as requested Coordination and or performance of auditing of resources during yearly supply and equipment inventories.
