The Marist / Health Quest School of Medicine (“SOMed”) seeks an Assistant Vice President for Development to join its team in a period of dramatic development and expansion. Serving as the chief advancement officer for the new School of Medicine and working with senior executives, board members, and other highly-placed volunteers and physicians, the AVP for Development must be a highly experienced large gift advancement leader with substantial, successful experience in higher education, academic medicine and/or healthcare philanthropy. The AVP for Development will additionally bring a background of proven success in targeting and pursuing project, infrastructure, and operational funding from individuals, foundations, industry, and government sources. The AVP for Development will act as the primary fundraiser and leader of all SOMed large gift and comprehensive campaigns. The successful candidate will possess outstanding diplomatic skills, will bring a demonstrated history of building trusting relationships, will be comfortable in a start-up environment, and will bring intellectual curiosity coupled with an interest in science and medicine.
Highly experienced large gift advancement leader with a Bachelor's degree and at least 10 years of substantial, progressive and successful experience required, most preferably in higher education, academic medicine and/or healthcare philanthropy. Must have experience leading or managing a major comprehensive campaign with the ability to clearly articulate campaign priorities to a variety of internal and external constituents. Successful leadership and managerial experience in one or more complex organization required, along with high-level interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills, and significant experience working with senior executives, board members, other highly-placed volunteers and/or physicians. The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate his/her ability to plan both strategically and operationally and to execute those plans at the highest levels of efficiency and effectiveness. S/he should be able to analyze data, problem-solve in a fast-paced environment, and effectively harness and leverage technology. Must be an energetic, self-directed team player, committed to the mission of Marist College/Health Quest. Occasional travel, evening, holiday and weekend work required. Valid driver’s license also required.
Some of the key functional responsibilities of this position are listed as follows:
Identify, cultivate solicit, and steward prospective major gift donors, including individuals, corporations, and foundations through visits, strategic special events, and other forms of direct personal contact;
Plan, lead, and monitor the progress of major comprehensive campaign(s), articulating campaign priorities to a variety of internal and external constituents;
Build, develop, and provide strategic direction to a diverse team;
Identify, recruit, and support high-level volunteer leaders such as trustees and advisory board members;
Advise and consult with the Marist College and Health Quest leadership and SOMed Dean on programs and projects suitable for private funding;
Manage the tracking and pursuit of foundation grants and government-funding opportunities; discover, track, and pursue other funding opportunities through grants;
Other duties as assigned.

The Marist/Health Quest School of Medicine aspires to become a nationally recognized leader in technology-enabled medical education, discovery and care delivery. By providing transformative physician education for patient-centered care, it will prepare students for the advanced healthcare environment of the future. The School of Medicine will also partner with leading life science and technology organizations to help educate, attract and retain diverse professionals to serve the healthcare needs of the Hudson Valley, all while enhancing the reputations of Marist and Health Quest as leaders in the fields of education and healthcare. The School of Medicine will seek faculty committed to cutting-edge healthcare education and to pursuing applied research initiatives. The collaborative environment of the school will provide inter-professional experiences between future physicians and other professionals – both from within and beyond the healthcare field. Finally, by offering students meaningful opportunities to serve the community and by fostering the principles of life-long learning, innovation and continuous improvement, the school will instill a patient-centric focus and prepare students for multi-care environments. The School of Medicine will seek approvals from the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME), the New York State Education Department and Middle States Commission on Higher Education. Once fully staffed and accredited (by July 2021), the School of Medicine is expected to begin actively recruiting students, with the first class of 60 matriculating in July 2022. By 2028, that class size projects to increase to 120.
