The purpose of this position is to function as the Epidemiology Program Manager and Scientific Lead/Technical Consultant for internal and external programs requiring epidemiologic expertise. The Epidemiology Program Manager position provides overall operation and administration for the Epidemiology Program that includes:
Oversight for surveillance activities
Management of data from surveillance, public health investigations, and other sources
Ensuring the use of valid scientific analysis of data and study designs for epidemiological investigations or study
Identifying public health problems and trends pertinent to Wake County populations
Ensuring that evidence-based interventions and control measures are applied in response to epidemiologic findings
Ensuring timely presentations of written and oral reports to professional and non-professional audiences that adhere to risk communication practices
Leading the epidemiology/public health unit in emergency response
The role of the Scientific Lead/Technical Manager provides the ability to produce scientific reports and develop, monitor and evaluate complex health programs such as:
Serving as scientific lead for the multi-agency Community Health Needs Assessment
and ensuring integration with the Public Health Task Force Goals – which includes oversight and scientific lead for project vendors
Directing and monitoring grants such as the Hepatitis C testing program at Wake County Human Service Clinics, Social Services and in the Community
Evaluating the Wake County Drug Overdose Prevention and Tobacco Initiative Program (Multiple contracted staff are regularly involved in these programs and require project and budget management responsibilities).
Participates in Public health projects and activities such as grant writing, strategic plan development, conducting literature reviews and other research, preparing manuscripts for scientific publications
