How This Role Contributes to Brighthouse Financial: In this role, you will be an individual contributor responsible for supporting the Company's Distributor Oversight Program within the Retail Compliance organization. The Company distributes its annuity and life insurance products through a network of over 400 third-party distributors, many of which are retail broker-dealers and banks. Reporting to the Director of Distribution and Operations Compliance, you will have the opportunity to contribute to projects that will have direct and immediate benefit to the Company's effort to manage risks associated with our third-party distributors. You'll work with professionals in Compliance, Legal, Distribution, Corporate Risk, and Internal Audit.
As background, the Retail Compliance Organization has responsibility for, among other things, policy and procedure governance, required training, regulatory risk management, broker-dealer compliance, and investigations at the Company, playing a large part in ensuring that the Company complies with applicable laws and regulations governing our annuity and life insurance businesses.
Perform testing to determine whether distributors are appropriately disclosing transactions where a client is replacing one annuity or life insurance product with another. Perform testing to determine whether distributors are appropriately reviewing transactions to ensure that sales are suitable for our clients
Support analysis to complete preliminary distributor risk rankings and test planning processes
Support the regular reporting processes to ensure that accountable business partners in Distribution or other Company departments are appropriately aware of risks associated with the Company's
Identify and address control weaknesses through monitoring, testing, and remedial action plans, and support the Company's FINRA Rule 3120 oversight program
Monitor the Company's compliance with state and federal regulations related to insurance distribution activities, gifts and entertainment, sales material, business continuity, and other broker-dealer activities
Conduct branch office inspections in accordance with FINRA rules and prepare written reports of findings
Perform other duties as assigned or required
Essential Business Experience and Technical Skills:
2+ years of relevant experience in the insurance industry or in financial services performing in a capacity related to compliance, audit, legal, regulatory affairs, or another related area of expertise
We are looking for an individual who is intellectually curious, flexible, adaptable, and centered in his or her relations with superiors and peers
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
FINRA Series 6, 7, 24, 26, or other securities registrations preferred and may be required for certain job functions
Knowledge of regulatory requirements in financial services industry, including insurance and securities industries
Excellent analytical, investigative, and writing skills
Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) competency
Ability to work effectively with associates at various organizational levels throughout the Company
Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and strategic leadership skills
Successful track record for delivering results in a timely manner
