The Minnesota State Centers of Excellence were created in 2005 as an initiative of the Governor and enacted and funded by the legislature. The Centers of Excellence promote connectivity between industry and our colleges and universities. Each center helps students gain access to the latest technologies and work-based learning opportunity; and facilitates education and training for business partners to meet their workforce needs today and into the future. The Centers help keep Minnesota's economy globally competitive in critical industry sectors: agriculture, energy, healthcare, information technology, engineering, manufacturing and transportation. The Engineering Center of Excellence is housed at the Minnesota State University, Mankato campus within the College of Science, Engineering and Technology.
The Director of the Engineering Center of Excellence (ECoE) is accountable to the President of Minnesota State University, Mankato and reports to the Dean of the College of Science, Engineering and Technology. A full-time STEM Outreach Director, part-time Director of Post-Secondary Success and 0.8 FTE administrative assistant will manage the day to day operations of the Center. The Director of the Engineering Center of Excellence (ECoE) works with institutions throughout the Minnesota State System, along with industry, K-12 and community partners, to be the engineering education leaders for the State of Minnesota. Through these partnerships and an Advisory Council representing academic and industry constituents, the Center will assure that ECoE meets the needs of Minnesota industry and will direct investments to adapt and facilitate curricula and effective instructional design and delivery across the ECoE partner network. ECoE has access to faculty and successful programs for recruiting, retaining, and educating a diverse group of students and is tasked with helping expand pathways to engineering and technical programs. The intent is to improve alignment of business needs and student interests and needs with coursework, projects, internships/coops and applied research.
Administrative Leadership and Budget
Establish annual budget and work with finance and administration. professionals to ensure proper procedures are followed.
Recommend hiring of all employees of ECoE.
Provide supervision for all full and part-time ECoE employees (STEM Outreach Director, Director of Post-Secondary Success, Science Fair Coordinator, Administrative Assistant and Graduate Assistants and Student Workers as funding allows).
Responsible for coordination between all partner institutions
Responsible for developing new and continued relationships/partnerships with Minnesota industry in engineering and related fields.
Responsible for progress toward the goals of the Center as defined by the Engineering Center of Excellence workplan submitted annually to MinnState.
Marketing and Fundraising-Development
Responsible for the overall supervision of all marketing and development efforts on behalf of the Center. The goal of "nation-wide" recognition will drive the marketing of the Center.
Applied Research and Outreach with Industry
Responsible for industry outreach, establish. connections/partnerships. Identify common goals between the Center and industry. Establish fee structures, and other financial arrangements with industry partners. Will work with the University's Finance & Administration division on legal documents necessary for the Center.
Development and implementation of professional development opportunities for faculty in Engineering and related fields to enhance the interconnectedness of industry needs and academic programs.
Responsible for coordination of all grant applications to state, federal, and private funding sources.
Overnight travel will be required.
Bachelor's Degree in Science, Engineering, Manufacturing or related area. (Conferred on an official transcript at the time of application.)
Three (3) or more years of Administrative experience in Education, Industry or Government.

Ability to engage in professional leadership and service, as a senior academic administrator, at the state, regional, national, and international levels to advance strategic directions.
Knowledge of current standards and best practices in engineering education.
