We are currently looking for the ideal candidate to join our senior management team as the Vice President of Financial Services / CFO. This position leads the Financial Services team to meet the objectives of Dakota Electric Association’s strategic plan and annual objectives.
Primarily responsible for the planning, direction, coordination, review and monitoring of all financially related policies and procedures.
Directs short and long-range financial plans and recommends changes based on the analysis and projection of financial position.
Ensures the proper utilization and internal control of Dakota Electric Association assets.
Staffs and leads the Financial Services department, including the treasury, long range financial planning, capital credit, internal and external financial reporting, financial analysis, accounting, accounts payable, fixed asset, payroll, corporate insurance, purchasing and tax functions.
This position works closely with the Vice President, Regulatory Services playing a key role in various regulatory filings including general rate case preparation. Participates in meetings with regulatory entities.
Provides leadership to the Customer Information System/Billing area, which includes meter reading, transfers, collections and billing. Responsible for the overall integrity of the CIS/billing system.
Manages the annual budget and forecast process. In preparing long range financial forecasts and recommendations, maintain an excellent knowledge of electric utility industry.
Ensures the appropriate level of financial analysis is performed for all business decisions.
Develops long range cash requirements and a debt portfolio strategy.
Participates in monthly meetings of the board of directors and works closely with the chair of the Board Audit Committee supporting the work of the Committee. Assures cooperation and transparency with the cooperative’s auditor.
Education A bachelor’s degree in business administration, accounting or finance is required. A Master’s degree in business administration, accounting, or finance and/or a CPA is desirable.
Experience Ten years of experience in a senior management position. Experience in the full range of financial and accounting functions, including staffing and leading the financial department in a medium or large business. Experience interacting and presenting to a board of directors while fielding a variety of questions.
Prefer diverse industry experience with some electric utility industry experience desirable. Experience in unregulated, competitive industries is also desirable.
Must have excellent knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and procedures. Should be generally familiar with FERC and regulated industry accounting requirements. Must be able to direct the development of financial systems.
Should have knowledge of and experience with customer information systems.
