The University for Maryland School of Social Work is seeking an Assistant Dean of Student Services to provide leadership within the Office of Student Services (OSS). The mission of the Office of Student Services is to provide programs and services that support students and their academic, professional, and personal development throughout their graduate studies. The school enrolls approximately 950 master's students on both the Baltimore and Rockville (Universities at Shady Grove) campuses.
This position is responsible for the development and implementation of services within the School of Social Work with the goal of supporting student success during the challenges of graduate study. The Assistant Dean of Student Services (ADSS) serves as the first administrative point of contact for students in distress. Provides counseling, crisis intervention, and academic advising to students. The Assistant Dean of Student Services works in close collaboration with the Associate Dean for Student Affairs to resolve complicated and nuanced student issues and concerns. The ADSS also provides consultation to teaching faculty, field instructors, and liaisons regarding student concerns and problematic behavior in classrooms and in field placements.
The Assistant Dean of Student Services is responsible for the implementation, coordination and facilitation of academic and career-oriented programs/services that are designed to aid in the retention and subsequent employment upon graduation of students. This includes identifying various services and resources to enhance career development at SSW. Serves as the first point of contact for students seeking licensure and provides leadership on various career development initiatives. The Assistant Dean of Student Services implements best practices in order to enhance and innovate the delivery of content related to large student-centered events and programs such as New Student Orientation, Convocation, and career-related programs.
The Assistant Dean collaborates with and is an advisor to the Student Government Association, providing guidance and support to ensure successful SGA events, student participation in SSW committees, and overall organizational functioning. In this role, the position guides, monitors, and supports the SGA activities to ensure that the organization maintains effective leadership and follows through with its responsibilities to the student body as a whole. This position will work collaboratively to offer opportunities for all students to engage with their campus and larger communities in meaningful ways.
Occasional travel to other Maryland campuses is required.

Minimum and Preferred Qualifications:
Education: MSW Required
Licensure: LMSW required, LCSW-C preferred
Type of Experience:
Higher Education experience required
Clinical experience, including assessment, triage and referral, is required Working knowledge of student development theories preferred
Student centered program development strongly preferred
Supervisory Experience: 5 years required
