Reporting to the Director of Disability Services, the Assistant Director will play an instrumental role in bridging academic gaps and removing academic barriers for Simmons? students. From reviewing documentation, to providing reasonable accommodations, the Assistant Director will provide one-on-one support, advocacy and academic coaching on issues related to disability in higher education.ResponsibilitiesWork with students to design and develop accommodations based on federal regulations, and available adaptive resources;Meet with students for academic coaching, providing resources in time management, study techniques, learning strategies and other college-necessary skills;Assist in the evaluation and interpretation documentation from treating practitioners/ professionals to determine accommodations;Coordinate, arrange and manage exams each semester, including scheduling exams, hiring of proctors, as well as exam acquisition and delivery;Coordinate, hire and train over note takers each semester, managing their note submissions; Oversee the process of note distribution and note taker training;Coordinate the hiring of CART Reporters and interpreters to provide access to students both on the ground and online;Collect and synthesize departmental data and statistics;Ensure the implementation of accommodations in the classroom;Assist with the development and implementation of department policies and procedures;Create and maintain relationships with working partners across campus;Other responsibilities as needed;QualificationsBachelor?s degree in related field such as rehabilitation counseling, special education, disability studies, higher education, counseling, or psychology plus a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience;Master?s degree preferred;Experience working with federal laws regarding postsecondary education and disabilities, including ADA and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973;Ability to manage and maintain confidential information;Experience advising, case management, counseling, and/or programming in higher education or a comparable setting with a comparable population of individuals with disabilities; Excellent interpersonal skills, including ability to build and sustain key relationships with governing agencies, students with disabilities, and all levels of the community;Strong communication skills, both written and verbal;Excellent organization skills and ability to set priorities and meet deadlinesCommitment to working with and fostering an inclusive environment with diverse population of individuals.Required Application MaterialsResumeCover LetterSalary GradeH06Instructions to Applicants: Please upload all applicable application materials (e.g. resume/cv, cover letter, writing sample, teaching philosophy, etc.) in the "Resume/CV" box on page 2 ("My Experience") of this application.
