The University of Missouri-Kansas City (UMKC) School of Dentistry is seeking a highly motivated and dedicated Research Assistant to join the laboratory of Dr. Sarah Dallas. The individual will be part of a dynamic research team working within the mineralized tissue research program in the Department of Oral and Craniofacial Sciences
The individual will work on NIH funded projects focusing on bone cell biology research and muscle-bone interactions in normal, aging and diseased states in bone.
Assist with performing and documenting research experiments in collaboration with the principal investigator.
Assist with cell and tissue culture of bone and muscle cells.
Perform live cell video microscopy experiments to determine the dynamic behavior and interactions of bone and muscle cells and their mitochondrial function and dynamics.
Assist with maintaining transgenic mouse breeding colonies and collection of tissue samples.
Perform bone and muscle histology, histomorphometry and microCT.
Assist with preparation of data for publication in research journals and presentation at scientific meetings.
The successful candidate should have a B.S. in a biology related discipline and must be able to work in a team research setting.
Prior research experience in cell culture, confocal imaging and/or microCT analysis would also be advantageous. Other preferred skills include excellent communication skills and a commitment to a career in research in the health-related professions.
Full Time/Part Time
This is a full-time, 100% FTE, unranked, non-tenure track, benefit eligible position.
The salary range for this position is between $30,000 - $34,000 annually, and is commensurate with experience and education attained.
