The role is to work in partnership with the business to support sustainable growth whilst ensuring risk is managed within a defined risk appetite whilst ensuring processes are designed and executed effectively to manage operational risk through application of key controls.
This position is responsible for undertaking the initial review of alerts or trades. Where in-depth analysis is required for the alerts or trades, the incumbent will escalate the case to a senior Trade Surveillance Analyst who will undertake in-depth analysis and escalate to the Team Leader where required. They will also be responsible for undertaking a timely analysis of information to form an opinion on whether there needs to be an in-depth analysis of the alert or trade to form a view as to if there are signs that an alert or trade might have been market abuse.
The incumbents' accountabilities stem from the surveillance related requirements of Market Abuse Regulations applicable to the business and the need to have in place an effective team, systems and controls.
Providing input into the development of asset class specific competencies for either FX and Commodities or Rates, Credit and Money Markets within the team whilst training other team members.
Providing input into the development of surveillance capabilities and competencies for Client, Trader and Sales Surveillance.
Undertaking initial analytical assessments of alerts and trades to formulate an opinion of if market abuse might have occurred. This includes analysing data sets, voice and written communications.
Under the guidance of the Senior Trade Surveillance Analyst, the incumbent Trade Surveillance Analyst may undertake more in-depth analysis on alerts or trades.
Listening to voice calls escalated by the Voice Surveillance Analyst.
Maintaining records in relation to trade alerts so that a clear audit trail is maintained.
Driving improvements in the communications review, linking alerts across different channels.
Providing input into annual product review, risk refresh and control effectiveness reviews.
Supporting Monitoring & Testing team to define and regularly review a monitoring and testing plan for the key controls identified by the RCA process.
Attending governance meetings as required.
A solid understanding of the Financial Markets business and lifecycle of a trade.
Understanding of either FX and Commodities or Rates, Money Markets and Credit products. Ideally gained whilst working in a front office environment.
Knowledge of the UK regulatory framework (e.g. FCA principles and Market Abuse rules).
Knowledge of different methods of trading and associated trading strategies.
Understanding of Operational Risk Framework methodology and systems.
Good level of Excel knowledge.
Ability to investigate and analyse complex pieces of information in differing formats (eg market data, verbal and written communication).
Evidenced written and verbal communication skills.
Whilst not essential, the following qualifications may be relevant: ACA/ACCA, IIA, CFA, FRM, PRM, Institute of Bankers.
Ability to manage large data sets (VBA preferable).
Experience working in a financial markets environment.
Experience of interacting with internal stakeholders and the ability to influence and successfully challenge management to achieve an effective control framework.
