The Strategic Initiative Owner (SIO) is the lead and senior-most role responsible for the successful execution and business value realization of a strategic initiative on behalf of the Ratings Executive Committee (EC). As part of a high-performing community of Strategic Initiative Owners and Project Owners you will build and lead cross-functional and cross-divisional teams and create a culture of empowerment to drive increased delivery pace and decision making. Ensuring that each component part of a complex initiative including Child Projects are coordinated, sequenced and prioritized will support optimized execution. The SIO role is explicitly empowered for decision-making and driving pace and delivery agility of the program.
Your business acumen, network, influencing and relationship building skills will be key to successfully providing strategic direction and oversight of multi-disciplinary teams delivering the initiative. Creating strong partnerships and shared accountability across business functions including IT and Data will be critical to the teams' success.
The overall objective of the SIO role is to drive better execution, pace of delivery and faster, more effective decision making leveraging Lean and Agile to empower teams to deliver consistently high quality results. As the strategic initiative lead you will be accountable for partnering with leadership teams across the business to define and deliver business value for Ratings.
The SIO role interfaces directly with the Ratings Executive Committee and works on behalf of the executive sponsors of an initiative. You will work with senior leaders across the organization as a strategic partner in delivering the initiative. With a strong focus on the customer you will ensure that the planning and delivery of the initiative is aligned with Ratings' business strategy. The successful delivery of these initiatives is directly aligned with delivering Ratings' strategy and meeting business objectives.
You will have exposure to teams across the organization and be an important part of the initiative delivery team operating an Agile delivery model. As such, you will have a chance to build Agile skills and competencies alongside you teams and benefit from internal and external coaching and developing opportunities. SILs will be supported by a structured framework and toolkit for execution and governance with the support of the Strategic Operations Operational Excellence team.
The SIO will require a sophisticated set of relationship management skills to manage complex and difficult situations at times. This will require the ability to push back and disagree with respect, nuanced influencing and conflict resolution. Underscoring every interaction is the goal of developing highly functional teams and a culture of shared success. As a senior leader you will role-model Lean and Agile behaviors in all your interactions.
Leading the definition of the strategic objectives for the initiative and the development/maintenance of a detailed program roadmap.
Develop the initiative business case and partner with the relevant leadership teams to define the business value of initiative deliverables.
Developing program level KPIs against clear targets that are aligned to the business value of the program.
Supporting and coaching Project Owners to develop project roadmaps, plans and metrics.
Communicating and engaging with stakeholders across the business to ensure alignment, awareness and engagement with the program.
Partner with the TPM Product Owner to prioritize the backlog of work and develop business cases, BSC and CPP materials.
Represent the project at CPP sessions and ensure the right components are prioritized at the right time.
Coordinate Child Project deliverables, prioritization, and manage dependencies across both Ratings and SPGI.
Keep the executive sponsors and the EC informed of progress and escalation of issues through a Lean-based approach leveraging tools such as dashboards and huddles.
Participating in project governance activities within the Agile delivery model providing decision-making and road-block removing support to the Scrum teams.
Ensure the initiative has adequate resourcing to achieve its objectives and manage within budget parameters.
As a senior leader coach, support and mentor members of the team including Child Project Owners.
Project Specific Responsibilities
The Workflow strategic initiative has an overall objective of driving to one workflow for S&P Ratings to digitize our content and process our jobs in a timely, effective, efficient and high quality manner. The role will guide a large team of members across all parts of the organization to standardize and simplify our processes through the design of the application. The SIO will have ownership of end-to-end execution starting from the strategic roadmap with key sequenced milestones and dependencies to change management and adoption. With such a large program a tight definition around business value to be delivered on an incremental basis will be required supported by robust and actionable KPIs/metrics. The SIO will execute against plan to ensure adoption of a majority of our users, high user satisfaction, a foundation that can be built upon efficiently for the future, and retirement of legacy systems.
This role will work closely with the Analytic Groups, Operating Office and Technology Data Services teams and ensure that key business partners expertise are incorporated along the way. Knowledge and experience of Ratings data and tools are preferred.
